We all have feelings of worry from time to time. However if these thoughts and feelings are persistent and you find you have a constant racing mind, spiralling, catastrophic thoughts, or have the feeling of being on-edge about every little thing, you may be struggling with symptoms of anxiety. Psychotherapy is a powerful tool to help manage and mitigate symptoms of anxiety by uncovering the root cause of your worries. By understanding your fears and triggers, you can better navigate anxiety provoking situations and move through them with more ease and confidence.
I work with mindfullness, DBT and some CBT techniques to aid in the reduction and acceptance of anxiety. Anxiety is one of the most common human emotional experiences. We all suffer from it at certain points in our lives. Learning to cope and accept these feelings as uncomfortable but manageable can be the path forward to feeling more confident and grounded in your life.
I have a lot of respect for clients who possess the courage to come to therapy to address a longstanding fear or phobia that has been causing significant distress or has been preventing them from living the life they want to live. I like to take a structured CBT approach to what is causing the fear which includes examining unhelpful thoughts and helping the client gradually move towards greater exposure to the feared stimulus. I am always researching what works in the field of anxiety treatment. I am currently exploring exposure therapy through virtual reality which can help the client complete more gradual exposures in a less risky environments before trying the exposure in real life. One of my favourite quotes relating to anxiety is "I've lived through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened." - Mark Twain

Struggling with anxiety can be such an overwhelming experience that affects all other aspects of life. If we were to work together, our first goal would be to help you reduce the intensity, duration, and frequency of anxiety to a manageable level. The key to this is often the development of emotional regulation tools that you can rely on when you're in distress. If your anxiety is less intense, we can explore potential purposes of the anxiety to see how you may move forward best.
Helping women to hold space for the discomfort that feeling anxiety and fear brings. With anxiety often comes feelings of overwhelm, a sense of paralysis- not knowing how to move forward or make decisions, difficulty focusing or completing tasks, brain fog, trouble sleeping, as well as digestive issues. Together, we will work to uncover the root causes behind your thoughts, feelings and symptoms to provide you with concrete, practical tools you can use to support overwhelming emotions. From working together you can develop awareness and insight into thought and behaviour patterns, while learning to relate more amicably to the emotions gripping and pushing you around. When we do this, we can focus more on what matters in our life.
In working with clients on their anxiety and stress I primarily aim to promote understanding: understanding of why we are feeling so anxious and stressed, what factors contribute, what can be done to better manage or eliminate anxiety and stress from our lives, and most importantly, how to eliminate ambiguity from our lives. I specialize in working with clients on their stress and anxiety, whether it stems from work, relationships, family, trauma, lifestyle, or beliefs. It is only through understanding that we can promote comprehensive and meaningful change in our lives. I utilize principles of cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused work, and psychodynamics in my work.

By exploring your self-narrative we will be able to begin the process of reframing your stories to develop a more positive and beneficial narrative. Utilizing a variety of techniques I help people address and overcome fears and anxieties that get in the way of living their lives to the fullest and undermine their ability to participate and interact in the world as they wish.
For anxiety and fears, a multimodal approach will be used with cognitive behavioural therapy and narrative. It will facilitate the identification of the anxiety or fears while creating a preferred narrative surrounding it.
Are held back in life by fear and anxiety? Anxiety can feel like a constant battle through negative thoughts, feelings or body sensations that crowd out other things that are important to us. This is my specialization as I find the worst part of anxiety is that it is often misinterpreted by the self and others and can lead to low self-esteem and excessive shame. My style is direct and genuinely non-judgemental so you can explore your history and current situation to build the wisdom and courage to find a new path forward.
It is common for most people to experience moments or periods of fear and anxiety, especially in today's fast paced , uncertain and rapidly changing world. More specifically, anxiety may manifest in response to trauma, PTSD, or critical life events which are perceived as a threat to an individuals sense of safety, security and survival. Depending on the intensity of symptoms, a family physician may recommend medication to provide support in addition to counselling or psychotherapy.
Heightened anxiety and fears are often a result of your emotional brain living in state of survival mode. This can happen if the emotional brain is stuck in "trauma time", whether it is from childhood trauma or recent traumatic events. Hypervigilance from having to walk on eggshells around a parent or an ex-partner can also stay in the body as elevated fearful anxiety. We will use EMDR Therapy, IFS, Somatic approaches to process the trauma memories, release the stuck fight-flight response in the body, and also desensitize the imagined scenarios that bring up the anxiety and the fears.
