Kendra Anselmo Counselling (She/Her)

Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW
 therapist: Kendra Anselmo Counselling,
In-Person in Victoria, BC V8V 1L3
I believe that our struggles make sense in the context of what we've lived through. Whether you're feeling stuck in patterns of anxiety, people-pleasing, self-criticism, or painful relationships, therapy can be a place to slow down, understand yourself more deeply, and begin to heal at the root. My approach is relational, compassionate, and trauma-informed, integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, mindfulness, and attachment-based perspectives. Rather than focusing only on symptom management, I work collaboratively with clients to explore the protective patterns that once helped them survive while creating space for lasting change. I strive to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel genuinely seen, accepted, and supported. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you can reconnect with yourself, develop greater self-compassion, and move toward a life that feels more grounded, authentic, and connected.

Treatment Approach

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Jungian Therapy Draws on Carl Jung’s ideas about archetypes, dreams, and the collective unconscious. It helps people explore deeper layers of meaning.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: I believe that healing happens through both insight and experience. My approach is warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed, grounded in the understanding that many present-day struggles are rooted in earlier relationships and experiences. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?" we explore, "What happened to you?" and "How did you learn to survive?" I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, attachment theory, mindfulness, and relational therapy to help you understand the protective patterns that have developed over time. Together, we'll gently explore your thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and nervous system responses, building greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and emotional regulation. Therapy isn't about fixing you because you are not broken. It's about helping you reconnect with the parts of yourself that have been carrying pain, fear, or shame so you can feel more grounded, connected, and free to live in a way that aligns with who you truly are.
