 therapist: Pamela Mekuz,

Sometimes we know something isn't quite right, but struggle to put into words what we're feeling or what needs to change. You might feel overwhelmed, stuck in familiar patterns, or simply exhausted from trying to manage everything on your own. I bring warmth, curiosity, and compassion to my work, along with a genuine interest in understanding what makes each person's experience unique. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly, gain new perspectives, and discover possibilities you may not have considered. I offer free virtual counselling and would welcome the opportunity to connect with you.

Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in genuine curiosity about each person's unique experiences. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is an important foundation for growth, and I strive to create an environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves, asking questions, and exploring difficult emotions without fear of judgment. I draw from both cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic perspectives, recognizing the value of understanding how our past experiences shape our present lives while also developing practical tools to navigate current challenges. Depending on your needs, our work might involve identifying unhelpful thought patterns, exploring emotions and relationships, developing coping strategies, or gaining insight into behaviours that may no longer be serving you. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Some sessions may focus on practical problem-solving, while others may involve deeper reflection and exploration. Throughout our work together, I welcome your feedback and encourage us to regularly reflect on what's helpful, what isn't, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Above all, I see therapy as a partnership in which your experiences, values, and goals guide our work together.

Therapy Sessions Pamela Mekuz Practice Description
I believe that understanding ourselves more deeply can open the door to meaningful change. Often, the ways we've learned to cope, relate to others, or think about ourselves have developed over many years. These patterns may have served an important purpose at one time, but can sometimes leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or frustrated with ourselves. In my work with clients, I'm interested not only in the challenges they're experiencing today, but also in the experiences, relationships, and beliefs that have shaped how they see themselves and the world. Rather than assuming there's one right way forward, I approach therapy as a collaborative process of exploration, reflection, and growth. My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from both cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic perspectives. This allows us to explore practical strategies for managing present-day challenges while also developing a deeper understanding of the emotional patterns that may be contributing to them. Before entering the counselling field, I worked in education and eating disorder recovery coaching. These experiences strengthened my appreciation for the complexity of people's struggles and reinforced my belief in approaching others with empathy, patience, and respect for their individual circumstances. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, eating and body image concerns, and challenges associated with life transitions. I also have a particular interest in supporting people who struggle with self-criticism, perfectionism, and the tendency to prioritize others' needs over their own. As an Associate Therapist at Counselling for All, I provide free virtual counselling under clinical supervision. I recognize that the decision to begin therapy can bring up uncertainty, and that finding someone you feel comfortable talking to matters. My goal is to develop a genuine therapeutic relationship where we can explore both the difficulties you're facing and the strengths you bring to navigating them. We can begin wherever you are.
