Sophia Kopelow (She/Her)

Counselor/Therapist, MA, RCC
Do you find yourself getting overwhelmed and overstimulated easily? Tend to overthink or feel anxious? Or perhaps you’ve been called “too sensitive” or emotional? Have you ever noticed that you take longer to process things, and need more downtime than others? If any of this resonates, you, like myself, might be a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), and I’m so glad you’re here. I understand how it feels to process things more deeply, to have a strong desire for purpose and meaning in the world and to connect to a spiritual practice. My mission is to help guide other sensitive souls embrace their sensitivity as a gift, and to step into their most authentic, confident and aligned version of themselves. I want to help you work with it rather than against it. I provide counselling for individuals and couples with a wide range of challenges including: anxiety, depression, healing trauma, relationship difficulties, spiritual/religious exploration, emotional regulation, life transitions, self esteem/self worth, disordered eating, personal growth and struggles related to neurodivergence (HSP, Autism, ASHD). We all need someone who embodies the phrase, “I see you, and I care”, and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to be that for my clients. Your inner experience matters. I believe the world is a better place when more deep feeling, sensitive people feel comfortable and safe in their skin and I can’t wait to support you in this process. This work takes courage, trust and commitment, but you don’t have to do it alone. If you’re ready to get curious about your inner world, and to start focusing your energy on your own well-being and healing, head to my website to book your free 20-minute consultation. I offer in person, online and walk and talk therapy. I would love to hear from you.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
  • Transpersonal Therapy Integrates spirituality and higher states of consciousness with psychology. It encourages growth beyond the individual self.
Approach Description: The essence of my approach involves viewing you as a whole person rather than only focusing on specific symptoms. I offer an intuitive and holistic perspective, supporting the connection between mind, body and soul. Using a person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach, my focus is on establishing safety and trust as the foundation for our work together. We'll begin with where you are at today, at a pace that feels sustainable based on your unique concerns, strengths, and therapeutic goals. I see my role as a guide who is walking alongside you on this path. My aim is to help you reconnect with your inner resources and to address the obstacles preventing you from experiencing connection, fulfillment and joy. I draw from a variety of techniques and approaches including: EMDR, Polyvagal theory, Mindfulness, Inner Child Work, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Theory (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT). You can expect compassion, humour, gentle curiosity, radical acceptance and understanding from me in our sessions. I offer in-person, virtual or walk and talk therapy.
