Trauma isn’t just about what happened. It’s about how those experiences continue to live in your body, your reactions, and your relationships. You may find yourself feeling stuck, reactive, or disconnected without fully understanding why. Therapy provides a space to safely process those experiences and begin to resolve the patterns they’ve left behind, allowing for deeper healing and greater freedom.

Bad things happen to us all. If they are so frightening and life-threatening that we have nightmares about them, flashbacks to them, and find ourselves avoiding anything that reminds us of them such that our lives become smaller and smaller, then it's time to deal with the trauma and the stress we feel after the trauma (post-traumatic stress). There are ways to lessen the pain of the memory and I can help you do that.

Trauma did not wait for consent; Therapy must. While many different therapeutic modalities exist for the treatment of trauma and PTSD, what remains essential is the thoughtful and careful negotiation of pacing between therapist and client such that the therapeutic process feels as manageable and tolerable as possible. Given that trauma so often results from harmful relational dynamics that force agendas or remove personal agency, trauma therapy must offer a healing space that does not seek to rush, pressure, or impinge. Rather, and in my professional opinion, it's imperative that trauma therapy respect the client's experience of what feels manageable at any given moment in therapeutic time and space, working to avoid unnecessary setback and potential retraumatization. I feel this is best achieved through the development of a reliable therapeutic rapport and relationship that functions to carefully and mindfully co-monitor and co-negotiate the everchanging and expanding dynamics between therapist and client. Put another way, your therapy should not be forced into someone else's timeframe or methodology; it should be allowed to develop in step with your specific history, unique needs, and comfort level. Please refer to my Trauma Blog on my website (pouliotpsychologicalservices.com) for more information on my approach to the treatment of trauma.

Therapist, @ Balanced Life Counseling & Consulting
Trauma and PTSD affect so many of us, but they don’t have to define our future. Healing is possible, and it begins with courage—the courage to face your wounds and take that first step. If you’re ready, I’ll be here to guide and support you. I offer a range of therapeutic options, including integrative somatic approaches, mindfulness practices, and psychedelic-assisted therapies with ketamine and cannabis. For deeper body-based healing, I also provide Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy (PSIP) to help release rigidly stored trauma in the body. Together, we’ll create a safe space to explore, heal, and rediscover your inner strength and resilience.

Trauma may be understood in different ways. Professionally, understanding trauma stems from individuals who are seeking help. Another way to learn about trauma is through research or reading. Experiencing personal trauma provides an inside means of understanding and feeling someone's trauma. I combine professional and personal trauma experiences in helping others.

Trauma can make it feel like the past is still controlling your life. You might find yourself on edge, struggling to relax, or feeling disconnected from the people you love. Maybe certain situations trigger overwhelming emotions, or you shut down to avoid the pain. Even when things seem “fine” on the outside, you might feel stuck, exhausted, or like you're just trying to get through the day.
Healing isn’t about forcing yourself to “move on” or rehashing the past over and over. It’s about helping the parts of you that are still carrying pain feel safe, heard, and unburdened. Using gentle, research-backed approaches like Internal Family Systems (IFS), we’ll work together to process what happened without reliving it, so you can finally feel more grounded, connected, and in control of your life.

Jason Herr
Psychologist, Psy.D.
I work with individuals who have experienced trauma and its lasting emotional, psychological, and physiological effects. With extensive clinical experience treating trauma across community mental health and private practice settings, I incorporate biological and neurological education to help clients understand how trauma impacts the brain, body, and nervous system. I also help clients learn how to regulate the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, building skills to reduce reactivity, increase grounding, and restore a sense of internal safety. Together, we process traumatic experiences at a safe pace while strengthening emotional regulation and resilience. My approach is compassionate, structured, and trauma-informed, supporting clients as they move toward healing and integration.

Rising Phoenix Therapy - Dempsey Young, Psy.D.
Psychologist, Licensed Psychologist
Trauma is my BIGGEST specialty and have worked a lot across my entire career in this area. Trauma affects everyone differently, and I know that each person's journey through it is unique. Over the years, I’ve learned and applied a variety of proven techniques to help people in ways that feel right for them. Trauma can show up in many ways, like struggling with self-esteem, feeling shame, staying in unhealthy relationships, having trouble setting boundaries, times of dissociation, or feeling stuck in fight/flight/fawn mode. It can also lead to anxiety, depression, and nightmares. I believe that, together, we can work toward not just surviving, but truly healing and thriving on your path forward.

None of us can escape some level of trauma; inevitably, it will be a part of life. How much it affects us, however, depends on many factors including the nervous system we were born with, our outer resources, and how much relational support we receive to help us recover from the trauma. Many people do not have access to adequate resources to help them recover from trauma (and this is very subjective and personal, varying from person to person), and the trauma continues to affect them in (sometimes subtle, but still) impactful ways. If certain factors come together, PTSD may develop out of trauma. Often clients feel like they have failed because they can't completely "get over" their PTSD reactions. I have often reminded clients that PTSD is "the gift that keeps on giving". It can be very hard, perhaps impossible, to completely eradicate PTSD reactions, because the reaction is not just of the mind, it is of the whole body. My approach to helping clients with trauma and PTSD involves looking at it holistically and working to understand how the trauma changed you, your reaction across many facets of your life (thoughts, feelings, habits, behaviors, self-care or lack thereof, expectations, how you view the world), and then working on replacing what is harmful with what is helpful. The goal isn't to completely get rid of the PTSD symptoms (which is likely impossible) but rather to dramatically reduce its effect on you, so you can live your best life, and so an occasional symptom breaking through will not derail you.

Healing from trauma or PTSD can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to face it alone. I work with clients to process past experiences in a safe, compassionate space while building tools to manage triggers, reduce distress, and reclaim a sense of safety and control. Using evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs, including DBT, behavioral strategies, and trauma-informed care, I help clients move toward healing, resilience, and a life where past experiences no longer define their present.

Christina Song
Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT-S
I work with individuals experiencing trauma and PTSD from a trauma-informed, relational, and strengths-based perspective. Trauma can result from a single event, repeated experiences, or ongoing stress, and its effects often extend beyond memory—impacting relationships, the nervous system, and daily functioning. In therapy, we move at your pace, focusing on safety, stabilization, and your personal goals.
Our work may include processing traumatic experiences, building coping skills, regulating the nervous system, and strengthening resilience. Therapy is a collaborative space where you can reclaim a sense of safety, reconnect with your body and emotions, and develop strategies to navigate triggers and stressors while honoring your unique experiences. My approach emphasizes empowerment, self-compassion, and sustainable healing rather than rushing toward “closure” or forcing outcomes.

Dr. Elizabeth Coldren
Psychologist, PSYD, PSYPACT
For more than 33 years, I’ve worked with adults whose lives have been shaped by experiences that were overwhelming, prolonged, or carried alone for a long time. Many are thoughtful, highly responsible people who have learned to keep going, even when something inside feels stuck, numb, or on edge.
This often includes early family dynamics that were never named as “trauma,” but still live in your body and relationships. When these kinds of experiences are ongoing or rooted in early life, they are often described as complex trauma, C‑PTSD, or developmental trauma.
Difficult or frightening experiences can also arise from single incidents or periods of crisis, such as medical trauma, accidents, or other shocks. These experiences may or may not meet criteria for PTSD, but they can still leave a lasting imprint.
These experiences can influence how you understand yourself, how you move through relationships, and how your nervous system responds to daily life. You may notice changes in mood, concentration, or energy. Some people feel constantly on alert, others shut down, and many move between the two. For some, there is a clear “before and after” in their life; for others, there is a quieter sense of having experienced more than most people realize.
In our work together, we focus on building safety and softening the impact of trauma, including PTSD and C‑PTSD, on your daily life. We pay close attention to how it impacts your body, nervous system, and relationships and to the patterns and roles that once helped you cope but may now feel limiting or costly. We move at a pace that respects your capacity and what feels possible right now, with an emphasis on choice and partnership throughout the process.

MindOverHealing Therapies
Hypnotherapist, CHt
Hypnotherapy can be instrumental in addressing trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Trauma often leaves deep emotional scars that manifest as anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, and heightened stress responses. Traditional therapeutic approaches may not always reach these deeply embedded issues, but hypnotherapy offers a unique avenue to access and heal the subconscious mind where trauma is often stored. Furthermore, hypnotherapy can help individuals build positive coping mechanisms and resilience. Techniques such as guided imagery and positive suggestion can instill a sense of safety and empowerment, replacing the negative emotions tied to traumatic events.
