Boston, Massachusetts therapist: Ricardo Despradel, licensed mental health counselor
OCD

Ricardo Despradel

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC,LPC
I specialize in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard, evidence-based approach for OCD. ERP works by gradually and intentionally exposing clients to the thoughts, images, or situations that trigger their anxiety while helping them resist the urge to engage in compulsions or avoidance. Over time, this process reduces the power of intrusive thoughts, builds tolerance for uncertainty, and breaks the cycle of obsessions and compulsions that OCD depends on to survive. I work with a wide range of OCD presentations, including contamination OCD, checking, harm OCD, and other subtypes, delivering treatment in a structured, individualized, and collaborative format designed for long-term relief. I offer telehealth sessions to teens and adults across New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, including affirming care for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC clients.

Psychologist, Clinical Psychology
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) isn’t just about rituals or repetitive behaviors—it’s often driven by intrusive thoughts, doubt, and a relentless need for certainty. Whether you're managing contamination fears, moral scrupulosity, relationship doubts, or perfectionistic obsessions, I offer targeted, evidence-based treatment designed to interrupt the cycle and restore clarity. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT)—a specialized model for treating obsessional doubt and inferential confusion. Dr. Jenny Shields understands that OCD can feel profoundly isolating, particularly for high-achieving professionals who are used to trusting their own minds. Is OCD putting a strain on your relationship? You’re not alone. Think of OCD as a relentless bully, constantly dictating how you should act—or else. But this bully doesn’t just target you; it infiltrates your relationship, too. Your partner may feel pressured to follow certain behaviors dictated by OCD, and over time, that pressure can turn into frustration or resentment. When your partner pushes back, it might feel like hostility toward you. Now, you’re not only struggling with intrusive thoughts and anxiety but also the pain of feeling unsupported or blamed in your relationship. If this is your experience, working with a couple therapist that fully understands the nature of OCD is essential. Couple therapy can help you and your partner to develop a shared understanding of how to best respond when OCD shows up, so that you are united in taking a stand against this bully, rather than letting it come between you.

New York City, New York therapist: Lenny Gallo, licensed clinical social worker
OCD

Lenny Gallo

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
OCD is more than just liking things neat and organized. It’s a serious and often misunderstood condition that can be incredibly disruptive to your daily life. For many people, OCD can interfere with work, relationships, and everyday routines—and it’s not something you can just “turn off.” OCD affects people of all ages and walks of life. It often shows up as unwanted, intrusive thoughts (called obsessions) that can feel scary, upsetting, or out of your control. People can have unwanted sexual thoughts, thoughts of harming others, fears about relationships, and contamination, to name a few. To cope, you might feel driven to do certain behaviors or rituals (compulsions) in an effort to quiet those thoughts. Unfortunately, this creates a cycle that can leave you feeling exhausted, isolated, and overwhelmed. OCD doesn’t always look the same. It can also show up in related ways, such as: Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) – Obsessive thoughts about perceived flaws in appearance Skin Picking (Excoriation Disorder) – Repeated picking at the skin, often causing injury Hair Pulling (Trichotillomania) – Compulsive pulling out of hair from the scalp, eyebrows, or other areas My approach to treating OCD is rooted in the evidence-based methods of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). ERP is considered the gold standard for OCD treatment. Together, these approaches help you face fears in a safe, supportive way—so you can break free from the cycle of obsessions and compulsions. I am a part a part of the International OCD Foundation's Therapist Network and have been trained in ERP through the organization. To find out more about OCD, Click here. Side Note: OCD and PTSD (TRAUMA) About 19% of people with OCD also have a history of trauma. The research in this area is still evolving, and the truth is we don't have the best methods for treating both. Some of the strategies that are highly effective for OCD might not be appropriate for someone actively struggling with PTSD, and vice versa. Currently, Prolonged Exposure (PE) is considered the gold standard for treating PTSD. That said, some individuals don't respond well to that. Others respond well to approaches like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) or IFS (Internal Family Systems). If you’re dealing with both OCD and trauma, we’ll work together to determine the best path forward—one that’s safe, effective, and tailored to your unique needs. PLEASE NOTE: Some treatment for OCD will be unconventional. In some cases, I may require house visits and family participation, but be assured that all treatment related to OCD is always in the interest of helping you manage unwanted thoughts and rituals.

McKinney, Texas therapist: Kreins Psychological Services, psychologist
OCD

Kreins Psychological Services

Psychologist, PhD, PsyD
As a psychologist specializing in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), my treatment approach is tailored to address the unique symptoms and challenges experienced by each individual. Through evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), particularly exposure and response prevention (ERP), I work collaboratively with clients to identify and challenge obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. By gradually exposing individuals to feared stimuli while refraining from engaging in compulsions, we aim to reduce anxiety and disrupt the cycle of obsessions and compulsions. Additionally, I incorporate mindfulness techniques and acceptance-based strategies to help clients develop a more adaptive relationship with uncertainty and discomfort. Psychoeducation plays a crucial role in enhancing understanding of OCD and building skills for long-term management. My goal is to empower individuals to regain control over their lives, reduce OCD symptoms, and improve overall quality of life.
