Lincoln Stoller
Counsellor/Therapist, PhD, CHt, CCPCP
Life coaching combines encouragement, guidance, consistency, problem solving, and spiritual direction. Depending on the nature of the person being coached it can be more or less demanding. I distinguish two kinds of coaching and two kinds of clients. The two kinds of coaching are suggestive and assertive. The two kinds of clients are high and low performers.
Suggestive coaching suits people who are moving forward and have many choices. Assertive coaching applies to people who have chosen one field and are working to improve their performance in it. High performers are successful people who are considering the meaning and value of their success. These people are working to remove negative elements from their environment. High performers will benefit from addressing their weaknesses and broadening their point of view.
Low performers are struggling with aspects of their mental or physical environment and are trying to reach a minimum, comfortable level of achievement. Low performers need to recognize and develop their strengths, and use them effectively.
Life coaching plays a role for all of my clients. The high performers can afford to attend to areas they typically neglect. The low performers will benefit from setting aside their focus on weakness. Everyone has abilities and aptitudes they've left undeveloped often because they've been convinced they don't have them. These abilities can be used to your advantage with a certain amount of focus and re-education.
At its core, coaching is about helping people learn and giving them the courage to fail successfully. Failing is another word for discovering new skills and opportunities. We've been taught that failure is bad and success is good, but that's a misdirection designed to encourage low-risk labor and the production of salable goods. Real achievers, inventors, and creators fail most of the time. Things, knowledge, people, and cultures advance through trial and error, and the greater the advance, the more errors are required to achieve them. Once you understand that and know how to learn, you can succeed in almost any field. I offer coaching that concerns itself with finding personal direction and creating a valuable life.

Some of my clients identify they want to be more clear about goals, or problems that have them feeling stuck. I can help them get clear about their preferred directions and challenges that get in their way. I can support them to explore actions that will lead to actions they can do to get there. As Bill O'Hanlon says, "The walk of a thousand steps begins with a few steps."

Manisha Grewal
Counsellor/Therapist, BA (Hons), MA, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
I specialize in life coaching through an integrative, client-centered approach: using acceptance and commitment therapy to clarify your values and set meaningful goals, mindfulness practices to stay present and motivated, and parts work to uncover and harmonize internal roadblocks. I weave in cognitive-behavioural strategies for practical action planning and emotion-focused techniques to process feelings that may impede progress, while spiritual/existential approaches can deepen your sense of purpose. Together, we’ll co-create strategies to overcome obstacles, boost your confidence, and design a life that truly reflects your aspirations.

Victoria is British Columbia's capital city and a major retirement destination, giving it an older demographic profile than most Canadian cities — one that generates consistent demand for therapists working with aging, loss, caregiver stress, and the psychological dimensions of life transitions in later years. The city's government-worker culture, combined with the University of Victoria and Royal Roads University, creates a well-educated population that is generally comfortable seeking therapy and willing to engage in longer-term work. Island Health provides public mental health resources alongside a well-established private therapy community serving Oak Bay, Saanich, and the Inner Harbour area. Victoria's separation from Metro Vancouver by water means specialist therapist access can be limited in some areas, with telehealth filling an important gap for clients seeking a specific type of match.
