Denver Wellness Counseling
Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC
Grief and loss is a normal part of the human experience, yet the suffering is intense and often lengthy. Grief work can be for the loss of a loved one, pet, job, identity, social group, dream/goal, ability, or construct. In therapy, we discuss the difference between "normal grief" (though grief looks different for different people) and "complicated grief" where any number of factors can act as a hinderance to the grieving process. Complicated grief can look like any of the following: having a complicated relationship with the deceased (unsaid words, unsettled grievances), death that is unexpected or violent, underlying attachment wounds, lack of support/understanding from your others, or any traumatic aspect of the experience surrounding the loss. At Denver Wellness Counseling, we approach grief work with the goal of healthy grief, which is a two pronged (somewhat conflicting) goal of moving on in life while also remaining connected to the deceased in a way that feels right. We often use EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) to address the complicating or traumatic factors that are hindering the grief process. Grief work always includes a component of future work, guiding the client to successfully imagine a future where they can maintain some connection to the loss, while also living what they consider a good life.

Mary Ramatici
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW, MSW
Grief and loss can show up in many forms, whether it's losing a loved one, the end of a relationship, or any other significant change that leaves you feeling like something is missing. I provide a compassionate space to process your grief at your own pace, without judgment or a timeline, so you can find your way through it while honoring what it meant to you. I've experienced the loss of a loved one myself, so I bring not only my professional training but also a personal understanding of grief, which allows us to connect on a human level through this process.

Arvada is a northwest Denver suburb blending a restored olde-town core with decades of comfortable residential growth toward the foothills. Its mental health picture is quietly suburban — family and career stress, aging long-term residents, and adolescent pressures — with the community also touched by the region's shared legacies of school and public violence. Jefferson Center community services and the Denver market provide solid access.
