Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC
Grief and loss is a normal part of the human experience, yet the suffering is intense and often lengthy. Grief work can be for the loss of a loved one, pet, job, identity, social group, dream/goal, ability, or construct. In therapy, we discuss the difference between "normal grief" (though grief looks different for different people) and "complicated grief" where any number of factors can act as a hinderance to the grieving process. Complicated grief can look like any of the following: having a complicated relationship with the deceased (unsaid words, unsettled grievances), death that is unexpected or violent, underlying attachment wounds, lack of support/understanding from your others, or any traumatic aspect of the experience surrounding the loss. At Denver Wellness Counseling, we approach grief work with the goal of healthy grief, which is a two pronged (somewhat conflicting) goal of moving on in life while also remaining connected to the deceased in a way that feels right. We often use EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) to address the complicating or traumatic factors that are hindering the grief process. Grief work always includes a component of future work, guiding the client to successfully imagine a future where they can maintain some connection to the loss, while also living what they consider a good life.

Melissa Clark with Fire and Reins

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
I support individuals navigating grief and loss, whether from the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or other significant life transitions that have altered your sense of stability and meaning. Grief often arrives in waves and can impact not only emotions, but also identity, relationships, and your sense of direction in life. In our work together, we create space for the full range of your experience—sadness, numbness, anger, confusion, and everything in between—without rushing the process or trying to “move on” too quickly. We also explore how grief lives in the body and nervous system, supporting you in staying connected to yourself as you move through it. This is a grounded, compassionate process that honors what has been lost while gently supporting your capacity to reorient toward life in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.

Grief touches every part of us—our relationships, our routines, our sense of who we are. Whether you’re mourning the loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a major life change, or a part of yourself that no longer feels present, I offer a gentle, grounding space to help you navigate what can feel overwhelming and lonely. Together, we’ll honor your grief, explore the emotions that arise in its wake, and make room for the meanings, memories, and connections that matter most to you. My intention is to walk alongside you with steadiness and care as you move through this tender time, at a pace that feels right for you.
