Depression can mean many different things. It can feel like an all encompassing fog, affecting every aspect of your life one day, and then feel like a small shadow in the corner the next. Sometimes it can hide for days, or months, only to come up again without warning. Through an integrative approach we will learn warning signs, challenge thought patterns, and work towards healthy thought patterns and rediscovering joy.
My approach to depression is usually to start with the basics. Is the client getting enough sleep, sunlight, proper nutrition, exercise/movement, social contact? I also like to use CBT, particularly behavioural activation, to see if we can start to implement small behaviours that help lift the client a bit. This is then accompanied by deeper discussions about what the client's experience is. Have they lost a sense of control or meaning in their lives? How can we increase motivation and agency?
Depression can feel heavy and isolating, often masking the emotions that need to be addressed. I utilize Emotion-Focused Therapy, helping you connect with and understand your feelings in a safe and supportive environment. We will address the underlying reasons for your feeling down and depressed, which may be a strong self-critic, unfulfilling relationships, or lack of purpose. Together, we can navigate the complexities of your feelings and work towards a more balanced and fulfilling life.
