Dr. Kim Edwards
Psychologist, C.Psych.
MindFit offers a 10-12 weekly OCD-Busters program, personalized to your strengths and challenges, and grounded in gold standard evidence-based approaches which include cognitive-behavioural therapy and exposure and response prevention. More specifically, you and your clinician would talk more about what OCD is, discuss how thoughts-feelings-and behaviours are related/impact anxiety, list your feared situations, teach you strategies to manage your anxiety, and then engage in step-wise and gradual behavioral experiments to help you face your fears. Many of the coaches at MindFit have been trained specifically in OCD treatment and receive ongoing consultation and/or supervision.
It's important to note that OCD is not your fault! You didn’t do anything wrong to develop OCD. It’s not a matter of choice anymore than asthma or diabetes. It’s an illness and it can’t be cured through willpower. However, with the help of a professional, you can participate in effective “workout programs” (treatment plans) to regain control of your life.
