Our clinic supports individuals struggling with codependency by helping them develop healthier relationship patterns, stronger boundaries, and a deeper sense of self. Through a compassionate and non-judgmental approach, our therapists work with clients to explore underlying beliefs, emotional patterns, and past experiences that may contribute to people-pleasing or difficulty prioritizing their own needs. Using evidence-based techniques, we empower clients to build self-worth, improve communication, and foster more balanced, fulfilling relationships while maintaining their own emotional well-being.

A good description of codependency is “when a person’s self-esteem rises and falls based on the other person’s mood, tone or experience.” But it is actually much more than that. The person is overly involved in the other person’s needs, wants, problems and issues. In reality, some of the nicest people in the world are codependent, and if not watched, all relationships have the potential to become codependent. Codependency takes healthy emotions and corrupts them. For example, empathy is a positive emotion, but in codependency the empathy rises to a level where there is no division between the two people. Generosity is also a beautiful emotion, but in codependency it turns into control and over enmeshment. In addition, the codependent person often feels excessively guilty for having any need that may create discomfort in the other person, even if the need is healthy and necessary for their emotional well-being. The undoing of this pattern is crucial to finding one's joy and peace. We unpack this as it relates to one's relationships to others as well as to the relationship with oneself.

Codependency is a complex behavioural condition that can deeply impact relationships. It often involves relying heavily on another person for emotional support, self-worth, and even a sense of identity. This can create an environment where one's own needs and well-being take a backseat to the feelings and needs of the other person, which can be exhausting and ultimately unfulfilling. If you find yourself struggling with codependency, know that you are not alone. Many people face challenges in setting boundaries, expressing their own needs, or maintaining a sense of individuality. You might feel a strong urge to please others, grapple with low self-esteem, or experience anxiety when you’re apart from someone you care about. It's important to recognize and address these feelings, as doing so can pave the way for healthier, more balanced relationships. Seeking support through therapy, engaging in self-reflection, and developing self-care practices can be transformative steps on your journey toward emotional independence and personal growth. Remember, breaking the cycle of codependency is not only possible, but it can also lead to more fulfilling connections with others. Your well-being matters, and taking these steps can help you build a more empowering and satisfying life.

Codependency often manifests physically before it appears in behaviour—through tension, activation, fawning, such as people-pleasing, or fear of loss. I assist clients in understanding these patterns, exploring their origins, and reclaiming a sense of internal safety and self-confidence outside of dependency. Together, we cultivate stronger boundaries, emotional stability, prioritizing the self, and in navigating healthier relationship dynamics
