Anxiety disorders are the most common of all the mental conditions and affect nearly 30 percent of adults at some point in their lives. Anxiety isn’t as simple as you might think, though. There are five main types of anxiety, each with its symptoms. Fortunately, anxiety disorders are very treatable and can be manageable with the right treatment plan that includes quality psychotherapy. Anxiety disorders can include Generalized Anxiety Disorder (also known as GAD), Panic Disorder, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (also known as PTSD), Social Anxiety, Separation Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (also known as OCD), Agoraphobia and Phobias.

Peter D. Ruffini

Licensed Professional Counselor, EdS, MA, LPC, LPCMH, ACS, EMDRPT-II
I help men whose anxiety doesn’t shut off—constant pressure, overthinking and worry, vigilance, or physical tension that interferes with focus, sleep, and relationships. Treatment goes beyond symptom management to address the underlying drivers, including trauma responses, rigid belief systems, and emotional avoidance. Using evidence-based approaches, we work to reduce anxiety at its source so it no longer controls your decisions or behavior.

Abington, Pennsylvania therapist: HUGH R STEWART III, hypnotherapist
Anxiety or Fears

HUGH R STEWART III

Hypnotherapist, Ph.D., ACHt.
I am an expert on anxiety and fear. I had Panic Disorder back in 1991. It was not pleasant with 3 trips to the emergency wards thinking I was having a heart attack. I was just starting to get involved with meditation, which in retrospect, made the anxiety worse. Then I discovered Breathwork. I found when I went into a deep Theta brainwave state that I could meditate fine after the breathwork session. Breathing from the diaphragm and belly help to reduce anxiety and fear. Holistic Integrated Breathing (HIB) also can lower blood pressure. Fear has often been referred as False Evidence Appearing Real. That is true most of the time with psychological fear. Psychological fear is coming from the past and is not usually real in the present moment. Physical fear on the other hand, jumping out of the way of a car, is real and we react to keep ourselves safe. I help and teach skills to determine and distinguish the difference between physical fear and psychological fear. Anxiety can be managed quite well when one learns how to do it. In Hypnotherapy we often have to extinguish fear from the past in our sessions for specific events that cause fight or flight. Anxiety is living in the future with all its unknowns.

Haddonfield, New Jersey therapist: Gabrielle A. Morreale / Recovered and Restored, licensed professional counselor
Anxiety or Fears

Gabrielle A. Morreale / Recovered and Restored

Licensed Professional Counselor, M.A. LPC.
Anxiety is among the most prevalent mental health concerns in the United States, and its impact continues to grow across age groups and communities. Many people — especially women — live with constant worry, ongoing tension, or fears that feel disproportionate to the situations they face (NAMI). A combination of biological vulnerability, psychological patterns, and societal stressors can contribute to anxiety. Reaching out for support is not a weakness; it is a courageous step toward restoring calm, clarity, and a greater sense of control in your life. At Recovered & Restored Eating Disorder Therapy Center, we provide focused and compassionate anxiety treatment for individuals struggling with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and specific phobias. While we are widely recognized for our expertise in eating disorder recovery, our anxiety therapy services are comprehensive and available to anyone seeking support — whether or not eating concerns are part of their journey.
