Annie Kurz
Counselor/Therapist, M.A., M.B.A., LMHC
Ms. Kurz has been working with couples for 15 years. Typically she meets with the individual who reached out with a full session, then a separate session for the spouse and then she brings the couple in together. Some couples make significant progress in 10-12 sessions, but others continue to seek on-going support. She is well-read and practiced in Gottman Institute literature and research (John and Julie Gottman) and attended their weekend retreat years prior. Sue Johnson's Emotionally Focused Couple's Therapy is also a structure she follows whereby each member of the couple learn how to listen and to share so that the other hears and understands.

Melanie Carey
Counselor/Therapist, LMHCA
Relationships often bring both deep connection and deep activation. Even in loving partnerships, it is common for couples to find themselves stuck in repeating patterns of conflict, distance, miscommunication, or emotional disconnection that can feel difficult to shift on their own.
In therapy, we slow down these patterns and begin to understand what is happening beneath the surface of interaction. From a psychodynamic and attachment-based perspective, we explore how each partner’s early relational experiences, protective strategies, and emotional needs are shaping the dynamic in the present.
Rather than focusing only on communication skills or surface-level conflict resolution, this work supports a deeper understanding of the emotional cycles that keep couples stuck — including pursuit and withdrawal patterns, sensitivity to rejection, shutdown responses, and unmet needs for safety, closeness, and autonomy.
Using a trauma-informed and Focusing-Oriented approach, we also pay attention to the body-based experience of relationship moments. The “felt sense” can reveal important information about what is happening internally during conflict or disconnection, often before it can be fully put into words. Learning to notice and stay with these internal signals can create more choice, regulation, and empathy in real time.
Therapy supports partners in developing the capacity to stay present with themselves and each other, even in moments of discomfort. This includes increasing emotional awareness, strengthening repair after conflict, and building more secure and responsive connection patterns over time.
Carey Counseling offers support for individuals navigating relational challenges as well as partners in both traditional and non-traditional relationship structures, including polyamorous and consensual non-monogamous relationships.
This work is especially supportive for couples who feel stuck in repetitive cycles, emotionally disconnected, or unsure how to reconnect after rupture — and who are seeking a deeper, more embodied way of understanding and transforming their relationship patterns.

Mr. Robert Hirsch
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, MSW, LCSW
I have helped hundreds of couples. It is clear to me that it is not sufficient to simply want to love someone, each partner must be committed to growing and understanding themselves so that their dysfunctional patterns of communicating and living don't continue to sabotage the relationship. I help partners see themselves more clearly and find the motivation and strength to endure the difficulty of rebuilding trust and opening their hearts fully again to their partner.

Relationships can become strained when communication breaks down, disagreements go unresolved, or partners begin feeling misunderstood or disconnected. I work with couples navigating recurring conflict, emotional distance, relationship stress, and significant life changes. Our sessions focus on understanding each partner's perspective, addressing unhelpful communication patterns, and developing more constructive ways to manage disagreements, strengthen trust, and maintain emotional connection.

Gary Ashley
Therapist, LMHCA, Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate
Relationships can get stuck in the same arguments, shutdowns, or misunderstandings even when both people want things to be different. I work with couples to slow those patterns down, understand what is happening underneath them, and pay attention to how each partner responds when tension rises. My work is Gottman-informed and may focus on communication, trust, emotional connection, conflict, and creating more effective ways of relating to one another.

Kody Evans
Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT
Relationships can reach a point where the same arguments keep happening, communication breaks down, or you begin to feel more like opponents than partners. Whether you are dealing with conflict, disconnection, trust concerns, infidelity, ADHD or neurodivergence within your relationship, or uncertainty about staying together, therapy can help you understand what is happening between you. My approach is direct, structured, and focused on helping both partners interrupt unhelpful cycles, communicate differently, and determine what meaningful repair and connection can look like for their relationship.
