Sammamish, Washington therapist: Doria McGahey, counselor/therapist
Serving Women

Doria McGahey

Counselor/Therapist, LMHC
My path to becoming a mental health counselor is deeply personal. After experiencing trauma in 2010, counseling became a turning point in my life. It not only helped me heal but also gave me the confidence to return to school and pursue an entirely new career. Looking back, I feel tremendous gratitude for the growth I experienced and for the people who supported me along the way. That experience shaped the counselor I am today. Since becoming a mental health counselor in 2019, I have been passionate about helping people navigate life's challenges with compassion, curiosity, and hope. I believe that healing is possible, even when life feels overwhelming, and that therapy can be a place where meaningful change begins. My early professional experience includes volunteering with hospice, supporting individuals living with brain injuries and dementia, working with people facing chronic and terminal illnesses during my internship, and providing care through EvergreenHealth's In Home Mental Health program. These experiences have strengthened my appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit and deepened my commitment to helping people grow, adapt, grieve, heal, and find acceptance when life presents difficult realities. I strive to create a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and understood. Whether you're working through trauma, coping with illness, navigating life transitions, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to meet you where you are and support you in creating a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. Outside of my work as a therapist, I'm a self-proclaimed plant nerd. I hold a bachelor's degree in Herbal Medicine, and my love of plants reflects my appreciation for growth, resilience, and the healing that can happen over time—both in nature and in ourselves.

Tacoma, Washington therapist: Humble Steps Psychotherapy, licensed clinical social worker
Serving Women

Humble Steps Psychotherapy

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LICSW, APHSW-C
I often hear from clients and colleagues that my love for this work is palpable. This passion grew from my roots in Hospice and Palliative Care, where I considered it a profound privilege to be invited into the most intimate moments of a person's life. While tending to patients, I noticed that physical symptoms like insomnia, chronic pain, and fatigue often persisted despite medication. This sent me down a path of deep research into the link between traumatic experiences and physical suffering, ultimately leading me to specialize in EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and AEDP. Because of this background, it is imperative for me to tend to the entirety of a person. I believe that being safely seen and felt by another, releasing traumatic burdens from the mind, and reclaiming the body are all integral to thriving. This is a journey I join alongside you, rooted in deep respect for the tenacity of the human spirit.

Beginning therapy can feel like adding another task to an already overloaded life. Reaching out takes intention and vulnerability. You don’t have to untangle this on your own, and you don’t have to accept feeling disconnected as the cost of staying together.

San Francisco, California therapist: Practical Psychology, Inc., psychologist
Serving Women

Practical Psychology, Inc.

Psychologist, Ph.D.
I believe that change is possible, even when life feels overwhelming. As someone whose mind tends to move fast, dig deep, and resist “fitting in,” I’ve learned firsthand how isolation, frustration, and burnout can grow from being misunderstood. In my practice, I offer a place of understanding, clarity, and transformation. I help clients map how their unique thinking, energy, and attention patterns affect relationships, work, and daily life. Together, we create strategies and habits that align with who you are—so that your strengths become the foundation for growth, not sources of struggle. I provide this support virtually across 44 states—and I’m committed to meeting you exactly where you are, and helping you move toward what’s next.
