Vanessa Hooper (She/Her)

Counselor/Therapist, LMHC, PMH-C
 therapist: Vanessa Hooper,
Online in Washington (Online Only)
My therapeutic roots are in attachment and complex trauma, the relational wounds that shape how we move through the world and who we let close. I work with anyone navigating the layered terrain of identity and connection. For couples, I specialize in ENM and polyamorous relationships, interracial and cross-cultural partnerships, and discernment counseling for couples weighing whether to stay or go. I also work with individuals carrying complex childhood or relational trauma—the kind that doesn’t just affect how you feel, but how you attach, trust, and show up in relationships. My clients often feel caught between worlds, wanting to feel seen and understood without having to explain everything. In our work, we slow down, explore what’s happening underneath the surface, and create room for healing and growth.

Treatment Approach

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Jungian Therapy Draws on Carl Jung’s ideas about archetypes, dreams, and the collective unconscious. It helps people explore deeper layers of meaning.
  • Ketamine-Assisted Therapy Combines low doses of ketamine with psychotherapy to treat depression, trauma, and anxiety. It can provide relief when other methods haven’t worked.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My approach is direct and collaborative. I’m not here to tell you what your relationship should look like — I’m here to help you figure out what you actually want and build the skills to get there. Whether you’re untangling communication patterns, processing past harm, or making one of the hardest decisions of your life, I’ll meet you where you are. My approach supports clients to identify and challenge narratives negatively impacting their life, allowing them to uncover their path for transformation. I work with individuals and couples of all identities and relationship types, who are wanting a change and a desire to deepen their awareness and connection, work through trauma, explore setbacks, and build a safe space for liberation, empowerment, and resilience. My approach blends intersectional feminism, multicultural awareness, mindfulness, EMDR, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I see therapy as a space for connection, reflection, and change — grounded in compassion, curiosity, and real conversation. You don’t need to have it all together to start; just a willingness to show up as you are.

Vanessa Hooper Practice Description
Clients come to my practice wanting to explore and process racial identity, sexual trauma, spirituality, and existentialism. Relationships are complicated and even more so when you’re navigating non-traditional structures, cultural differences, or the weight of old wounds that keep showing up in your closest connections. What makes my practice a little different is how I weave spiritual and symbolic frameworks into the work. I use tarot and astrology through a Jungian lens, not as fortune-telling, but as tools for reflection. I also provide ketamine assisted therapy and offer psychedelic integration, supporting clients before and after plant medicine experiences as they process trauma, existential questions, and the insights that emerge when ordinary defenses soften. This work sits at the intersection of my clinical training and a deep personal respect for these medicines and what they ask of us. For clients who are open to it, these tools aren’t separate from the therapy, they’re woven through it.
