FREE 20-minute consult: Accepting New Clients - Reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you've spent a long time being the person who holds everything together. You may be functioning on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, stuck, or unsure of how to move forward. Our approach to therapy begins with meeting you exactly where you are. We don't believe you need to have everything figured out before you begin, and we don't see you as a problem that needs to be fixed. At Havenwood Psychotherapy, we believe your experiences make sense within the context of your story, and that understanding those experiences can create space for meaningful change. Our work is warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed. Together, we'll explore the patterns, beliefs, emotions, and relationships that may be influencing how you experience yourself and the world around you. We want therapy to be a space where you can be honest, curious, and fully yourself without needing to perform or have the “right” answers. Therapy isn't always about becoming a different version of yourself. Sometimes it's about coming back to yourself—building self-trust, making sense of what you've been through, and creating the freedom to move forward in a way that feels true to you. You don't have to carry it all alone. We are here to help you take the next step.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) Helps clients challenge and replace irrational beliefs. It is an action-oriented approach for lasting change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: Our approach to therapy is collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own experience. Our therapists draw from a range of therapeutic approaches and tailor the work to each person's needs, goals, personality, and pace. We believe lasting change often begins with understanding rather than judgment. Together, we may explore how past experiences, relationships, nervous-system responses, beliefs, and coping patterns have shaped the way you relate to yourself and others. Rather than simply trying to eliminate uncomfortable thoughts or feelings, we work toward understanding what they may be communicating and developing new ways of responding. Our team integrates a range of therapeutic approaches, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, mindfulness, attachment-based and relational therapy, and cognitive and behavioural strategies. We value approaches that recognize the whole person and create space for both insight and practical change. We also work from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective. Rather than viewing differences in attention, sensory processing, communication, or emotional regulation as deficits to be corrected, we explore what support each person actually needs and how to develop strategies that work with, rather than against, their unique ways of experiencing the world. Above all, we believe therapy should feel like a genuine, trusting relationship—one where you can be curious, honest, and fully human. Our role isn't to tell you what you should do or who you should become. Instead, we offer a grounded and compassionate space to make sense of what you're experiencing, gently challenge patterns that may no longer serve you, and support you in moving toward greater self-trust, connection, and authenticity.

Therapy Sessions Havenwood Psychotherapy Practice Description
At Havenwood Psychotherapy, we believe therapy should be a space where you feel truly seen, understood, and supported—not judged, fixed, or told who you should be. We provide compassionate, trauma-informed virtual therapy for teens, adults, and couples across Canada. Our expert therapists support those navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, grief, neurodivergence, and questions around identity and self-worth. Our approach is collaborative, relational, and individualized. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we take time to understand your story, the experiences that have shaped you, and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we work toward greater self-understanding, emotional regulation, self-trust, and meaningful, lasting change. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, caught in familiar patterns, or simply know that something needs to change, you don't have to figure it out alone. At Havenwood, therapy is about creating a space where you can slow down, listen inward, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been lost, silenced, or pushed aside. Our hope is not to help you become someone different, but to support you in feeling more fully at home in who you are and in the life you choose to create.
