Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: At Transversality Counselling, we see therapy as a space for connection, curiosity, and transformation — not fixing what’s broken but making room for what’s human. Our work is trauma-informed, relational, feminist, and anti-oppressive, grounded in the understanding that healing is nonlinear and shaped by history, culture, and community. We draw from evidence-based and experiential modalities such as EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), DBT, the Gottman Method, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and strength-based practices. These tools help us support clients in regulating emotions, healing attachment wounds, and reconnecting with meaning and agency in their lives. Our lens is decolonial and culturally responsive — we hold space for the crossings of migration, identity, and systemic context. We believe that individual suffering often reflects collective realities, and therapy can be a space to name both personal and structural pain while nurturing resilience and care. Healing, for us, is relational. It happens in the presence of compassion, attunement, and accountability — within ourselves, our relationships, and our communities. We meet clients with openness and respect for their lived experience, integrating reflection, somatic awareness, and values-based action. Our goal is to create a space where every part of you can belong — where stories, identities, and emotions are welcomed, not edited. Whether we’re working individually, in relationship, in groups, or through supervision, we approach the work with the same intention: to accompany, not direct; to witness, not define; and to move toward connection, repair, and possibility.

Transversality Counselling & Psychotherapy Practice Description
Transversality Counselling was born from the shared vision of two Latinx clinicians, Carolina Rojas and Hollman Lozano. Our practice is rooted in the belief that therapy must honour the crossings of migration, language, gender, and resistance. We named our practice Transversality because healing, like identity, doesn’t follow a straight line. It moves — across experiences, generations, and cultures. It loops and weaves. It crosses. We integrate trauma-informed, relational, feminist, and anti-oppressive frameworks with evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy, DBT, Gottman Method, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Our work is grounded in both professional training and lived experience, and always shaped by curiosity, respect, and care. We attend not only to the psychological but also to the social — understanding that personal distress often reflects systemic harm. We work collaboratively, helping clients connect their inner experiences with their outer worlds, and reclaim the stories and strengths that have been silenced or overlooked. We provide: • Individual Counselling – Support for anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic illness, grief, life transitions, identity exploration, and self-esteem. • Couples & Relationship Counselling – For partners navigating communication challenges, trust repair, intercultural dynamics, and alternative relationship structures. • Group Counselling & Workshops – Community spaces for exploring grief, identity, and resilience through shared experience. • Clinical Supervision – Offered by Carolina Rojas (RCC), providing reflective, values-aligned support for counsellors and trainees. All services are available in English and Spanish, online and in person. We welcome individuals and couples of diverse backgrounds, orientations, and identities — including queer, trans, immigrant, neurodivergent, racialized, and multilingual communities. Our clinical focus includes trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, relational conflict, caregiver burnout, body image, identity exploration, and cross-cultural transitions. We also support survivors of violence, people navigating grief or loss, and those working through questions of belonging and meaning. Our Values Our practice is guided by values of connection, equity, and cultural humility. We believe therapy should not ask anyone to leave parts of themselves at the door. We approach healing as a shared process — relational, embodied, and shaped by the contexts we live in. We acknowledge that accessing therapy can be difficult. To make our services more inclusive, we offer sliding-scale and affordable options, and we provide official receipts for insurance reimbursement. Our Commitment We are committed to creating a space where all stories are welcome — where healing is not about perfection, but about movement, connection, and possibility. At Transversality Counselling, we hold hope in the crossings: between pain and growth, loss and belonging, self and community.
