Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Psychosocial Therapy Looks at how social and environmental factors affect psychological health. It emphasizes relationships, community, and resilience.
  • Social Constructionist Therapy Looks at how social and cultural context shapes identity and problems. It helps clients create new narratives of meaning.

Emily Rowe Practice Description
I’m a psychologist on the team at Breyta Psychological Services, a premier trauma specialty practice based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Breyta is the first and largest trauma-focused clinic in the Raleigh area to offer precision mental health, and I’m proud to be part of a team that is deeply committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based, and highly individualized care. Many of the clients I work with are intelligent, high-functioning individuals who have been successful in their careers or personal lives, yet still feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, burnout, relationship strain, or emotional overwhelm. Often, these patterns are not random—they are shaped by earlier experiences, attachment dynamics, or unresolved trauma that continue to influence how you interpret and respond to the world. My goal is to help you understand the deeper “why” behind what you’re experiencing, not just manage symptoms on the surface. My work is grounded in Breyta’s precision mental health model. This means I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Instead, I draw from evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based approaches, while also integrating relational and attachment science. I focus on identifying the specific processes that may be keeping you stuck—such as avoidance, rigid thinking patterns, or difficulty tolerating emotions—and tailor our work to address those directly. In our sessions, you can expect a collaborative, intentional, and structured approach. Therapy with me is not just a place to vent, nor is it a rigid checklist of techniques. It’s a space where we work together to build insight, develop self-compassion, and learn practical skills that you can apply in your daily life. Many people come to Breyta after feeling like prior therapy was either too surface-level or overly scripted. My aim is to offer something different—an experience that is both deeply human and grounded in scientific evidence. One of the things I value most about being part of Breyta Psychological Services is the collaborative environment. I work alongside a team of doctoral-level psychologists who specialize in trauma and related concerns, including anxiety, depression, insomnia, burnout, and relationship difficulties. We regularly consult with one another and stay engaged with current research to ensure that the care we provide is both effective and up to date. This allows me to bring not only my own expertise into the room, but also the collective knowledge of a highly specialized team. My goal is not only to help you feel better, but to help you live with greater clarity, intention, and confidence. As we work together, you’ll begin to understand your patterns more clearly, shift your relationship to difficult thoughts and emotions, and make choices that align more closely with your values. If you’re looking for therapy that goes beyond quick fixes—something that is both deeply thoughtful and grounded in science, I would be honored to work with you as part of the Breyta Psychological Services team.
