Treatment Approach

  • Art Therapy Uses creative activities like drawing, painting, or sculpture as a way to express emotions. It is especially helpful when words are hard to find.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Contemplative Psychotherapy Combines mindfulness and meditation practices with modern psychology. It encourages awareness and compassion as part of the healing process.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Psychodrama A group therapy that uses role-play and dramatization to process emotions. It helps clients gain perspective and release tension.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: I begin by listening to what brings you to therapy and what you hope might change. Together, we explore your emotions, relationships, strengths and recurring patterns, including the ways you have learned to protect yourself. Our work is collaborative, with room for honest reflection, practical skills and new experiences at a pace that respects your comfort. My approach is integrative, trauma-informed and evidence-informed. Depending on your needs, I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), cognitive and dialectical behavioural therapies (CBT and DBT), psychodynamic therapy, Gestalt, mindfulness, and experiential and body-based practices. I adapt these approaches to you rather than expecting you to fit a single method. The aim is to help you understand your experience more fully, develop greater flexibility in how you respond and make choices that support the life and relationships you want to build.

Gui Mansilla Practice Description
I offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples seeking support with emotional pain, relationship difficulties and patterns that have become hard to change. My work combines careful listening, honest conversation and opportunities to practise different ways of responding. With more than 20 years of psychotherapy practice and nearly 20,000 hours of direct client work, I bring an integrative perspective informed by professional training and the individuality of each person I meet. My background in law in Argentina, education, performing arts, spirituality and comparative religious and philosophical traditions also shapes my curiosity about how people understand themselves and their lives. We begin with what matters to you now. Where useful, we explore how earlier experiences influence your present relationships, emotions and choices. Alongside understanding, our work may include practical skills, mindfulness, body awareness or experiential exercises adapted to your needs and comfort. I provide sessions in English and Spanish, online and in person in Toronto. A free consultation gives us time to discuss what you are looking for and consider whether working together feels like a good fit.
