The embodied self is a psychospiritual concept that hosts existential questions of “Who am I? What am I? Where does my value lay?” Our relationship with our bodies can be fraught with neglect and dissociation as we learn to ignore the many messages it sends to us. The embodied self can be experienced in a positive or negative manner, and it is strongly related to self-esteem, self-image, and one’s satisfaction with personal and sexual intimacy. A positive sense of an embodied self is associated with autonomy, functionality, joy and fulfillment. However, chronic illness, disability and accidents, and negative social sanctions can result in a sense of disembodiment. Call our office for more detailed information.

Mia Turner
Therapist, MA, RYT, ASDCS, LMFT, NPT-C, CMNCS, CMIP
Body image concerns rarely develop in isolation. They are often shaped by family messages, culture, trauma, racism, sexism, ableism, neurodivergence, chronic illness, disability, gender expectations, religious experiences, social media, and the countless ways we are taught which bodies are considered worthy, acceptable, attractive, productive, healthy, or "normal." For many people, body image is deeply connected to belonging, safety, identity, visibility, self-worth, and the ways our bodies have been perceived, treated, regulated, or judged throughout our lives.
This work is grounded in an understanding that our relationships with our bodies are shaped not only by personal experiences, but also by larger cultural, historical, and systemic forces. Exploration may include the impacts of racism, colonialism, anti-fat bias, ableism, sexism, cisheteronormativity, beauty standards, diet culture, healthism, medical trauma, and other systems that communicate which bodies are valued and which are marginalized. Particular attention is given to the ways intersecting identities such as race, culture, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, disability, chronic illness, spirituality, and socioeconomic experiences influence embodiment and body image.
My approach moves beyond surface-level body image concerns and into a deeper exploration of embodiment, nervous system experiences, identity, self-worth, intimacy, sexuality, sensory experiences, and belonging. Attention is given to the ways internalized messages, shame, comparison, perfectionism, masking, trauma, and cultural expectations may shape your relationship with your body. Exploration may also include the impacts of chronic illness, disability, neurodivergence, hormonal changes, body changes across the lifespan, and experiences of living in a body that may not align with societal expectations or dominant cultural norms.
My work is informed by Health at Every Size (HAES), body liberation, neurodiversity-affirming, disability-affirming, and liberation-oriented frameworks. Rather than focusing on weight, appearance, or changing your body to fit external standards, therapy supports developing a more compassionate, curious, and trusting relationship with yourself. Particular attention is given to reconnecting with bodily wisdom, interoception, sensory experiences, pleasure, rest, nourishment, movement, and the body's capacity to communicate needs, limits, emotions, and desires.
My intention is to support you in gently untangling inherited and internalized narratives while cultivating greater self-trust, self-compassion, embodied authenticity, safety, respect, choice, and freedom within your relationship with yourself and your body. Often, this work involves reclaiming embodiment on your own terms and creating space for your body to be experienced as a home rather than a problem to solve or vessel to abandon.

Dr. Ingrid Solano
Psychologist, PhD
I work with both adults and adolescents on an individual basis. Individual psychotherapy helps clients deal with particular issues, symptoms, and stressors. My goal is to provide a safe, non judgmental space for you to explore who you are, how you relate to others, and what supports you on your journey to become your best self. I lean into, listen, understand, and enhance authentic expression. Together we create a collaborative process of transformation. What that means and what that looks like is different for everyone...
I offer evidence-based therapies from a curious, nonjudgmental philosophy. No matter where you have been, evidence-based therapies focus on changing the now. I strive to help my clients experience the world mindfully, and in accordance with their personal values. Through our work in cultivating an affirming, authentic, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, I provide support while we collaboratively deconstruct what is causing distress in your life and preventing you from being your most effective and authentic self. Individual therapy facilitates insight and growth, becoming more effective at actualizing your values, and building more authentic relationships with yourself and with others.
While there are many forms of therapy you can pursue, my expertise is in time-limited, evidence-based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT), the Unified Protocol for emotional disorders, and third wave CBT such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness based interventions. (I do have experience in, and practice, an eclectic arrangement of other modalities as well-- when applicable or specifically requested.) We explore thoughts, beliefs, and understanding, while also prioritizing behavioral processes that focus on your contexts and the functions of how you relate to your internal experiences. CBT is designed to help individuals notice and shift their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to get relief from painful emotions such as anxiety and sadness.
Third wave interventions also promote well-being through developing coping skills, personal values, and metacognition that complement traditional CBT interventions. I provide flexible, customizable approaches that look different with each patient. I empower my clients to discover their strength, clarity, creativity, autonomy, resilience, motivation, and confidence in meeting whatever happens next. I provide individualized tools to use in everyday decision-making that will help those changes last. With these modalities I treat individuals who are impacted by depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship distress, burnout, divorce, loss, uncertainty, stigma, and other life experiences, diagnoses, and stressors. We explore the sources, experiences, and beliefs that impact how you relate with the world and implement change in your life. You are the expert on you, but are you your most effective and content self?

When You Don’t Feel at Home in Your Body
You might spend hours thinking about food, weight, or how your body looks — yet still feel disconnected or never “enough.” Maybe you compare yourself to others, replay comments you’ve heard about your appearance, or struggle to enjoy things you love because you’re too aware of how you look doing them.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. So many people — especially women — carry an invisible burden of shame, guilt, and self-criticism around their bodies. What starts as “wanting to be healthier” can turn into a constant inner battle. In our work together, we’ll use a structured, evidence-based approach called TEAM-CBT to help you quiet those harsh inner voices and reconnect with your body in a kinder, more trusting way. You’ll learn tools to:
Challenge the perfectionistic thoughts that feed self-criticism
Understand what drives body-focused fears and anxiety
Build new habits of self-acceptance and calm
Experience genuine comfort and confidence in your skin
Our sessions blend science, mindfulness, and compassion. You’ll have weekly check-ins to track progress and brief daily exercises to practice new patterns — because real change happens between sessions.
I BELIEVE:
Your body is not a problem to fix — it’s your home, your history, and your ally.
Confidence grows when we practice kindness toward ourselves, not punishment.
Comparison steals joy, but connection restores it.
You deserve to live fully — wear the clothes you love, eat without guilt, and show up in your life as you are.
Healing becomes easier when we add a little humor and humanity along the way.
Also Integrated In Our Work:
• Interpersonal Work – to strengthen connection and empower you to be yourself using The 5 Secrets of Effective Communication
• Mindful Self-Compassion – to cultivate a gentler, kinder inner voice through the work of Dr. Kristin Neff
• Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) – to regulate the nervous system and support trauma recovery alongside cognitive tools for a well-rounded approach
