The more we isolate the more difficult it becomes to create a life with others. Therapist, MA, RYT, ASDCS, LMFT, NPT-C, CMNCS, CMIP
Support for experiences of loneliness, disconnection, belonging, and the challenges of finding relationships, communities, and environments where you can show up authentically. This work is particularly relevant for neurodivergent, disabled, chronically ill, highly sensitive, LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, multicultural, and otherwise marginalized individuals who may have spent years masking, adapting, code-switching, self-monitoring, or feeling unseen, misunderstood, or out of place. Social isolation is not always about being physically alone. It can also arise from feeling disconnected while surrounded by others, feeling unable to fully express who you are, struggling to find people who share your experiences, or carrying the exhaustion of constantly adapting yourself in order to belong. For many people, experiences of rejection, bullying, exclusion, trauma, discrimination, chronic illness, disability, neurodivergence, or identity-based marginalization can shape not only relationships, but also the nervous system, self-concept, and expectations of connection itself. This work explores how experiences of belonging, exclusion, attachment, culture, family systems, identity, trauma, and community have influenced the ways you relate to yourself and others. Particular attention is given to the ways masking, people-pleasing, hypervigilance, self-silencing, rejection sensitivity, and other adaptive strategies may have developed in response to environments where authenticity did not always feel safe or welcomed. My approach integrates mindfulness, somatic therapy, EMDR, parts work, expressive arts, neuropsychotherapy, attachment-focused approaches, and liberation-oriented healing. Rather than focusing on becoming someone different in order to fit in, therapy supports reconnecting with your own voice, values, needs, interests, and authentic ways of relating. Through greater self-understanding, nervous system awareness, and self-trust, space is created for more meaningful connection with yourself, others, and communities where your full humanity can be seen, supported, and understood. The goal is not simply to reduce loneliness, but to cultivate a deeper sense of belonging—to yourself, to your relationships, to your communities, and to the parts of who you are that may have been hidden, minimized, or left behind in the pursuit of acceptance.

Dr. Daniele Levy, Bay Area Cognitive Therapy

Psychologist, PhD, MBA
When working with clients who experience social isolation, I combine Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help them develop healthier social connections. Through CBT, we identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs that contribute to isolation. With ACT, we focus on accepting uncomfortable emotions while encouraging actions aligned with values, such as engaging in meaningful social activities. This combined approach helps clients build resilience, improve social skills, and create more fulfilling relationships.

Social isolation comes when the external world no longer seems a viable investment of your Self. The people, places, things and events do not feed you. Or you may be afraid of something or some part of what they represent. And yet in the end we are social creatures, and crave connection. Let's shine a light into the dark spaces with you and mend what needs mending.

therapist: Julie Cochrane - Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) Therapist, hypnotherapist
Social Isolation

Julie Cochrane - Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) Therapist

Hypnotherapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist, RTT-T, Rewind Therapy Practitioner, Integration Coaching
Social isolation is rarely a logistics problem. People who feel deeply isolated often have people around them. The isolation lives in the gap between being seen and feeling truly known, a gap that is usually held by subconscious beliefs like "I do not belong", "people will leave" or "the real me is not safe to show". RTT works directly with those beliefs. Once the underlying pattern updates, reaching out tends to feel less effortful and connection starts to land where it used to bounce off. I work online via Zoom with adults around the world and offer a free 20-minute discovery call as the first step.

Toronto, Ontario therapist: Jennifer Masters, life coach
Social Isolation

Jennifer Masters

Life Coach, Ba Psychology, CF Thanatology, D Kessler – Grief Grief Coach Certif,M Devine – Grief Coach Certif
Grief can make social connection feel exhausting. Many grievers are already physically and emotionally drained from grief brain, poor sleep, racing thoughts, nightmares, grief overload, or the constant effort of getting through the day. When other people ask how they are, judge how long grief is lasting, offer unwanted advice, or expect them to “get back to normal,” it can feel easier to pull away. I support adults who feel isolated, disconnected, or too tired to keep up with friends, family, hobbies, or social plans after a loss. I explain why this can happen in grief, why it makes sense, and why it is not a personal failure. I also offer practical tools to help clients manage exhaustion, soften isolation, set boundaries with others, and slowly reconnect with people, routines, and interests in a way that feels possible for them.

It can be difficult to take the first step in connecting with others around you. While alone, you can be fully in control but this lacks the fundamental part of life: relationship.
