Jennifer Masters (She/Her)

Life Coach, Ba Psychology, CF Thanatology, D Kessler – Grief Grief Coach Certif,M Devine – Grief Coach Certif
Hi, I'm Jennifer, a Certified Thanatologist and Grief Coach. I've dedicated my profession to companioning people who are moving through bereavement and grief. Personally, I experienced complicated, traumatic, and prolonged grief from caring for my father through his illness and his passing in 2019. His death inspired me to become a grief coach — I wanted to provide the unwavering support to other grieving hearts that I received, which helped me heal. It also allows me to honour him. It was through the wisdom, understanding, and coping tools I gained as a griever that I've been able to hold space for others and walk beside them as they grieve. My goal is to help my clients feel seen, heard, and accepted — and to begin discovering answers, regaining a sense of control, and finding balance, peace, and hope.

Treatment Approach

  • Art Therapy Uses creative activities like drawing, painting, or sculpture as a way to express emotions. It is especially helpful when words are hard to find.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Reality Therapy / Choice Theory Focuses on present choices and taking responsibility for actions. It helps clients create more fulfilling relationships and lives.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: My grief coaching approach is integrative, drawing on a blend of therapeutic philosophies rather than a single method — because grief touches every part of a person, and no one framework fits everyone. I'm informed by Compassion-Focused principles, helping clients meet their grief with self-kindness instead of judgment. I use Art Therapy techniques as an optional, gentle way to process feelings that are hard to put into words. My work is shaped by Emotionally Focused principles, helping clients understand the emotional patterns grief creates. I draw on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive approaches to help clients stay grounded in the present rather than looped in "what ifs." I use Reality Therapy / Choice Theory concepts to help clients reconnect with what they can control and choose, even amid loss. And I incorporate Solution-Focused techniques to help clients build practical coping tools alongside the emotional work. Together, this integrative approach means we don't just talk about grief — we build understanding, coping tools, and a path toward balance and hope, at your pace.

Fees & Insurance

Fees
  • Average Session Fee $60.00
  • Affordable sliding scale therapy: apply if you may be eligible.
  • My fee is $60 for a full 60-minute Zoom session. I keep my rate intentionally affordable because I do not want cost to be the reason someone cannot receive grief support. I also offer a sliding scale. If $60 is not manageable, clients can simply let me know, and I can reduce or waive the fee. No proof or long explanation is required. Because I am a certified grief coach and not a psychotherapist or psychiatrist, my sessions are not covered by OHIP or insurance.

Jennifer Masters Practice Details

Therapy Sessions Jennifer Masters Practice Description
For six years, I have supported grieving adults coping with the death of a loved one, a person or pet, as well as reproductive loss, infertility, and traumatic loss. I also work with caregivers of terminally ill loved ones, and people newly diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness. I work with clients one-to-one, virtually, based in Toronto and serving all of Ontario, Canada, and the USA. My approach is active inclusivity and meeting clients where they are in grief — I never rush anyone's healing or use a one-size-fits-all approach, and I avoid confusing grief jargon. I hold a BA in Psychology (York University) and studied Thanatology — Death, Dying & Bereavement Studies — at Centennial College. I'm certified through David Kessler's Grief Coach and Grief Educator programs, Megan Devine's Grief Care Professional program, COPE's Prenatal Loss program, and CCPC Global as a Certified Grief Support Counsellor.
