Anxiety can result from an insult to the psyche at an early age, a traumatic event, or a general sense of worry or concern about the future. We can tackle this by working on strategies to understand the meaning of anxiety and find skills to combat the stress of living with anxiety day after day.

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, ACS
All of us feel anxious sometimes, and anxiety is a normal part of life. Anxiety runs on a continuum from everyday stress to the heightened "fight or flight" response that is activated in trauma. Our brain is a problem-finding, problem-fixing machine. Our brain's job is not to make us happy, but to keep us safe.
So our brain is doing its job to keep us safe when it sends feelings of worry or anxiety as a danger signal. This is often a helpful warning, telling us to proceed with caution.

GRIS ALVES
Counselor/Therapist, Compassionate Inquiry, Trauma Informed Mindfulness Teacher
I work with anxiety and fear through a trauma-informed, body-aware approach rooted in Compassionate Inquiry®. Rather than treating anxiety as something to eliminate, we explore it as a meaningful signal shaped by past experiences, nervous system patterns, and unmet emotional needs. Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed, hypervigilant, or stuck in cycles of worry or self-doubt. Together, we build awareness, regulation, and understanding, helping clients relate to anxiety with compassion and develop greater safety, clarity, and trust in themselves.

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek counseling. Sometimes people have physical and emotional reactions to anxiety including a panic attack. I will partner with you in providing therapy for Anxiety. We will explore ways to resolve the things that are making you anxious and ways to better regulate your thoughts, feelings and moods. Treatment can include CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Treatment) which involves learning behavioral relaxation techniques as well as restructuring patterns of thinking that foster anxiety. Denver Wellness Counseling
Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC
Here at Denver Wellness Counseling we specialize in the treatment of trauma (unprocessed fear-based memories), anxiety, panic, and related disorders.
As one of the most common reasons for seeking therapy, anxiety can be rather complex and "sticky" as a symptom, requiring a thoughtful and educated approach. Anxiety is also a big, umbrella term, and thus it is often helpful to begin treatment by increasing awareness about one's unique anxiety, including its origins, how and why it developed or increased over time, and most importantly, how the anxiety is trying to "help." Despite the major discomfort of anxiety, it often feels like it has a job (or 2) and thus will be resistant to initial, simple attempts to soothe it.
Once the anxiety is understood, we can explore past and present events that contribute to the function of anxiety, and consider a healing modality, such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and/or parts-work, to relieve the core fears that contribute to the anxiety and it's "role" of self-protection. Often the process of anxiety treatment includes the work of unburdening a younger version of ourself with an unfair role it had to play for protection, safety, or to receive/maintain love (ex. perfectionism, people pleasing, codependency, etc).
EMDR for anxiety can target the source of anxiety from past, present, or future situations. We also offer advanced EMDR techniques and approaches for panic attacks or specific phobias.

Registered Psychotherapist, MA, MPH, LPCC
If you’re feeling anxious, it’s because you’re living in the future. If you’re at peace it’s because you’re living in the present.”
– Lao Tzu
Anxiety happens as a result of future thinking; thinking about things that haven’t happened yet or may not even happen. Our mind gets caught up in a thought loop and we start to feel anxious as the loop continues.
Preventing anxiety happens by using mindfulness to come back to the present moment through focusing on on your breath, body, or environment.
When you’re feeling anxious, you can notice where you feel the sensation of the anxiety in your body. If you stay present with that sensation, it will often change and move and the anxiety will pass.
I’d be honored to help you use mindfulness to prevent and work with anxiety so you can return to relaxation and feel better.

Anxiety and fear can be debilitating. What may start out as an experience or thought can quickly effect your nervous system and become "stuck". You may know that you are safe but your body may not believe you and will continue to produce physical anxiety symptoms. There are several ways to approach this together, including using mindfulness, gentle exposure or reprocessing.

Andrew Goldin
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW, LAC
I work with men who have anxiety and want to make changes in their lives. Many of my clients report that symptoms of their anxiety, particularly uncontrolled worry, interfere in their relationships and productivity. They share a feeling that these symptoms lead to thoughts and behaviors that are inconsistent with their values. Some men share a concern that worrying and preparing can be a strength in some aspects of their lives but gets in the way of how they want to be perceived in other areas. I work with men with anxiety to understand the contributing factors and the ways in which patterns in their thinking lead to reactions they want to avoid. I also work with them to better understand anxiety and to explain it to others in their lives so the strategies and supports they're putting in place are understood and appreciated.
