i have a 95% success rate with healing anxiety. There are key dietary components which must be assessed and, in hypnosis, are very easy to fix. Once the body is stabilized, we go on to identify childhood challenges and traumas that are related to the anxiety. These issues are released by being pulled out by their roots by a specialized combination of releasing and hypnotherapy techniques.

Los Angeles, California therapist: Jayson L. Mystkowski, psychologist
Anxiety

Jayson L. Mystkowski

Psychologist, Ph.D., ABPP
While Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) is highly effective in the treatment of anxiety disorders (e.g., Panic Disorder, Social Phobia, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), clinicians do see some “return of fear,” or partial relapse, in some patients due to a variety of factors. Over the past two decades, treatment researchers, with whom Dr. Jayson Mystkowski had the pleasure of working with at UCLA for over 10 years, have studied “return of fear” and discovered some key variables that may optimize the effects of learning during CBT for anxiety disorders (Craske et al., 2008). First, evidence suggests that focusing on tolerating fear versus eliminating fear yields better clinical outcomes in the long term. Namely, teaching clients that fear and anxiety are normal feelings, rather than attempting to “down-regulate” such feelings all the time, is more realistic and seems to engender “hardier” clients. Second, helping clients to generate an expectancy that “scary things will not happen,” is very powerful. To do this, it is important for clinicians to create more complex exposure exercises (i.e., tasks in which a client confronts a stimulus of which they are afraid), using multiple feared stimuli instead of one at a time. Then, the lack of a feared outcome becomes particularly surprising and memorable for a client and fear reduction is more potent. Third, increasing the accessibility and retrievability of non-fear memories learned during treatment are powerful factors in mitigating against a return of fear. Craske and colleagues demonstrated that exposure to variations of a feared stimulus, using a random schedule across multiple contexts or situations, is more effective than exposure to the same stimulus, on a predictable schedule, in an unchanging environment. The former paradigm, it is argued, creates stronger non-fear memories that are easier for a client to access when subsequently confronting feared objects or situations outside of the therapy context, than the later scenario. In sum, clinicians have long been aware that some fear or anxiety returns following very successful CBT treatment. As mentioned above, there are some clear, empirically supported ways to modify the therapy we provide to further help clients generalize the gains made in therapy sessions to the real world.

Longmont, Colorado therapist: Lance Kair, registered psychotherapist
Anxiety

Lance Kair

Registered Psychotherapist, MA, LPC
Anxiety can show up in many ways. For some people, it feels like constant overthinking, difficulty relaxing, or a mind that never seems to slow down. For others, it appears in the body through tension, restlessness, fatigue, trouble sleeping, a clenched jaw, digestive issues, or the feeling of always being "on." Many clients seek therapy after realizing they have become stuck in a cycle of managing symptoms while never fully understanding what is driving their anxiety. They may appear successful and capable on the outside while internally feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected from themselves. Lance helps clients move beyond simply coping with anxiety and toward understanding it. Using a combination of somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), he works with both the physical and emotional aspects of anxiety. Together, clients learn to recognize patterns of stress, understand the protective parts of themselves that may be working overtime, and develop a greater sense of safety and trust within their own minds and bodies. His approach is both supportive and intentional, offering a space where clients can slow down, explore the deeper roots of their anxiety, and reconnect with what matters most to them. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, therapy aims to help clients develop lasting resilience, greater self-understanding, and the ability to move through life with more clarity, flexibility, and ease.

Margaret Graham

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, LCPC, LPCC
In our modern environment, our nervous systems face constant activation from an unprecedented barrage of stressors and alerts. This chronic state of vigilance is exhausting and unsustainable. I help clients identify and manage their input channels—learning which information deserves attention and which can be filtered out—while developing personalized nervous system regulation techniques. Through clinical hypnosis and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, clients discover how to prevent overwhelm, interrupt anxiety cycles, and create spaces of calm even amid life's inevitable challenges. My work emphasizes practical tools that can be implemented immediately to reduce the physiological and psychological impacts of chronic anxiety.

Lakewood, Colorado therapist: Melissa Clark with Fire and Reins, licensed clinical social worker
Anxiety

Melissa Clark with Fire and Reins

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
I help clients work with anxiety and fear that show up in their relationships—especially when it leads to overthinking, reassurance-seeking, withdrawal, or difficulty trusting connection. Rather than trying to simply “calm down” anxious responses, we slow things down and get curious about what your nervous system is responding to and what your fear is trying to protect. Together, we explore the patterns that keep you feeling uncertain or disconnected in relationship, while building your capacity to stay present with discomfort without losing yourself or the connection you care about. Over time, this work supports a shift from reactivity and fear-based relating into more grounded, secure, and intentional ways of connecting with others.

Denver, Colorado therapist: Catherine Bitney, psychologist
Anxiety

Catherine Bitney

Psychologist, PhD, Licensed Psychologist
I have a passion for helping clients reduce anxiety and OCD. Some of my clients have started therapy because they want to rid themselves of anxiety altogether. I try to remind them that people who don't have anxiety also have issues, think about psychopaths! Anxiety at it's core is trying to keep us safe. I like to re-tune anxiety, so that we can listen to the warnings without getting overwhelmed, shutting down, or avoiding the world and challenges. Research in psychology shows that we feel more confident and have higher self-esteem when we can accomplish difficult tasks. The goal is not to shy away from challenges and stressors, but to learn to face them, manage them better, and have success stories.
