Lawrence, Kansas therapist: Shannon Gorres, life coach
Anxiety

Shannon Gorres

Life Coach, MDiv, MA
Whether is social anxiety, climate or eco-anxiety, attachment anxiety, or another form, I hear you. We are in unprecedented times of both social pressure and information overload. I live with intergenerational anxiety, and I share techniques to honor its wariness and have a calmer and more fun life. They can include guided imagery, breathing techniques, earth grounding, and more. But you may have heard about these before. The trick isn't knowing about them, it's finding a connection to what actually works for you when you need it- and that is what we discover.

Kreins Psychological Services

Psychologist, PhD, PsyD
As a psychologist specializing in anxiety, my approach to treatment is centered on understanding the unique experiences and triggers of each individual while providing evidence-based interventions to effectively manage symptoms. Through therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques, I help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, develop coping strategies, and cultivate resilience in the face of anxiety-provoking situations. Additionally, I emphasize the importance of relaxation techniques, stress management skills, and lifestyle modifications to promote overall well-being. Collaboratively, we work towards empowering clients to regain control over their thoughts and behaviors, reduce avoidance, and ultimately live more fulfilling and balanced lives.

Charlotte, North Carolina therapist: Kristina Peck, psychologist
Anxiety

Kristina Peck

Psychologist, Licensed Psychologist
Anxiety has a sneaky way of hijacking your thoughts, draining your energy, and convincing you that everything is a bit more catastrophic than it probably is. Whether it shows up as constant worry, racing thoughts, sleepless nights, or that uncomfortable tightness in your chest, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to stay stuck. With nearly 20 years of experience as a licensed psychologist, I help clients understand and work with their anxiety—not just try to outrun it. Using mindfulness-based approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and compassion-focused tools (with a dash of humor), we’ll explore what your anxiety is trying to tell you—and how to respond in a way that feels empowering instead of paralyzing. You’ll learn how to ground yourself, create space from your thoughts, and reconnect with what matters most—even when anxiety tries to take the wheel. Fear might still visit (because hey, it’s human), but it doesn’t have to drive your life. Let’s turn down the volume on anxiety and help you breathe a little easier.

Boston, Massachusetts therapist: Abelee Groff, licensed clinical social worker
Anxiety

Abelee Groff

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LICSW
I work with anxiety and fears through a trauma-informed, nervous system–focused approach that goes beyond symptom management. Rather than viewing anxiety as something to eliminate, I help clients understand how anxiety developed as a protective response and how it shows up in the body, thoughts, and relationships. This work often includes building awareness of triggers, increasing emotional tolerance, and restoring a sense of safety. I integrate attachment-based therapy, somatic strategies, and parts-informed work to support emotional regulation, reduce reactivity, and strengthen self-trust. Therapy focuses on helping clients respond to anxiety with curiosity and compassion, while developing practical tools to feel more grounded, resilient, and connected in daily life.

Charlottesville, Virginia therapist: Dr. Michael M. Grant, psychologist
Anxiety

Dr. Michael M. Grant

Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Psychologist PhD, MBA
If the experience of depression is "stuck in present pain" then the experience of anxiety is "fear of future pain". The core experience of anxiety is fear and fear is always about something in the future that we think is going to cause us pain as it gets closer and closer to the present moment and begins to become it. We don't fear things that happened in the past...no need to fear them as they are past events. But, as we look at the future and as it becomes our present, we see what we think will hurt us and no one wants to hurt or feel pain. So, we begin to dread these things and the pain we think they will cause us. We begin to fear the experience of pain we are sure is going to happen. The symptoms of any of the anxiety disorders include not only emotional fear and dread but also behavior: avoidance of the feared thing, attempts to dodge it, saying/doing things to protect oneself from this anticipated pain, etc. Symptoms are also physiological: heart racing, sweating, feeling restless, fidgety, continuous chewing on thoughts about the feared thing in a vain attempt to "come at it from all angles" in our minds and so somehow lessen the impact we fear. We can also have gastrointestinal problems (the GI system is very sensitive to anxiety), problems sleeping, relationship problems, shallowness of breath, sexual functioning problems, and a host of other physical complaints. There are some very specific tactics you can learn that will help you manage your anxiety and take your power back in a way that restores a sense of calm--and I can help you learn those tactics.
