Berry Didier Nibogora - Bilingual CBT therapist @ CMAP Health
Counsellor/Therapist, RP(Q), CCPA, LLM
Trauma and PTSD are our brain and body responses to unprocessed memories. Those memories keep affected individuals stuck in the past by being taken back to the same level of arousal, fear and anxiety as when the traumatic event occurred every single time they are triggered. They result from a lack of processing and integration of what happened to be able to move to the next chapter of life. You will expect three part in our work on trauma: exposure response prevention (1), memories integration and processing work (2) and reclaiming life (3). All these stages and phases are titrated to the client’s window of tolerance and grounding strategies are often used to bring the hyper a roused or dissociating client back to the present. Using trauma-informed language and strategies, my approach is evidence based, client-informed and outcomes-focused.

Melanie Wuytenburg
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, MSW, RSW
Living through trauma can leave lasting effects—memories that intrude, a constant sense of alertness, or feeling shut down and disconnected. It's crucial to know that PTSD and other trauma responses aren’t signs of weakness; they are the mind and body’s way of trying to cope with overwhelming experiences.
I work with trauma, PTSD, and complex, developmental trauma (C-PTSD). I approach this work with sensitivity, recognizing the profound impact these experiences have on your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
Because there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach to healing trauma, my work is built upon robust trauma frameworks. I offer specialized, evidence-based modalities including:
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)
In therapy, there’s space to work through these patterns at a pace that feels safe. Together, we focus on helping you regain a sense of stability, reduce the weight of the past, and move toward feeling more present and whole. My goal is to empower you to reclaim your fundamental sense of safety, agency, and vitality.

Collaborative Care Therapy
Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Psychotherapist
Trauma can profoundly impact life, often in ways that are deeply embedded and not immediately apparent. At Collaborative Care Therapy, we address trauma using an evidence-based, phased approach that is integrative, relational, and trauma-informed, recognizing the unique journey each individual faces in their healing.
Our therapy sessions are structured to navigate through the stages of trauma recovery carefully. We begin with establishing safety and stability, ensuring that you feel secure and grounded before delving deeper. This phase is crucial in building a trusting therapeutic relationship and providing you with tools for emotional regulation and coping.
In the next phase, we gently and respectfully approach the process of remembering and mourning. This involves exploring the trauma narrative, validating experiences, and working through the memories and emotions associated with the traumatic events.
The final phase focuses on reconnection and integration. Here, the goal is to help you integrate the traumatic experiences into your life story without them dominating your present or future. We work on building resilience, enhancing self-esteem, and fostering a sense of empowerment. This phase is about moving beyond trauma, embracing growth, and looking towards the future with hope and confidence.
Throughout this phased approach, we ensure that each step is taken with care, always respecting your pace and readiness. Our virtual therapy sessions provide a convenient and comfortable space for this important work, ensuring that you have consistent support wherever you are.
Begin your path to healing with Collaborative Care Therapy, where we are committed to guiding you through the complexities of trauma towards a life of greater peace and fulfillment.

Julie Taylor Counselling

Trauma immediately causes a change in our physiology and readies our body to fight, flee or freeze. Trauma embeds itself in our brains and bodies, perhaps partly because of the human will to survive. We have to both understand it and gently take away its power. Trauma is unique: what is traumatic for one person may not be traumatic to another. Trauma causes a miss-match between what we see and reality, causing us to over-react and plunge our bodies into a state of panic: adrenalin flowing and a state of readiness to fight, flee or freeze. Later, our bodies may be plunged into that same hypervigilance for no real reason: that is PTSD. Often we mask how we feel and act how we 'know we should', widening the gap between how we feel inside and what we do. If we don't recognize trauma straight off, and process and heal it, the result of that trauma builds inside us with every new traumatic event, also leading to PTSD. If you have experienced trauma - something that you personally have found traumatic - come explore it. Don't let it take over your life?

PTSD means that when faced with certain environmental stimuli similar to those present when you were traumatized, you develop the same or similar-level of physiological and emotional responses to the present circumstances even in the absence of additional trauma. Trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can have a tremendous impact on a person's mental, emotional, and physical well-being. When working to overcome trauma and PTSD, it's essential to address the issue holistically, taking into account the individual's whole being. This includes exploring the root causes of the trauma, examining the physical sensations that arise in the body, and examining how the mind responds to trauma triggers. Peter Levine's work in "Waking the Tiger" emphasizes the importance of addressing the physical sensations associated with trauma. By incorporating techniques such as mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and energy work, individuals can work through the traumas that contribute to PTSD symptoms, helping them to lead healthier, happier lives. Holistic approaches can be powerful tools for overcoming trauma and PTSD, allowing individuals to identify and address the underlying issues that impact their mental health.
