Ps. I Love You Psychotherapy Inc.

Registered Psychotherapist, HBEd, MA (Hons.), Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Providing psychoeducation on what Emotional Abuse is, is the first step. Emotional abuse can include: constant yelling; name calling, demeaning remarks or threats; physically or socially isolating an individual; withholding affection; bullying or public humiliation; exposure to family violence; denying something an individual knows is true (gaslighting); destroying an individual’s belongings, hurting their pets, or threatening to do so amongst other things. One of the hardest things a person has to do is stop being in denial when someone you love is mistreating you. Through DBT I will teach you assertiveness training, distress tolerance, self-acceptance and cognitive reframing so that you can reclaim your self worth.

Creating a safe and supportive environment to begin the healing work following emotional abuse is a priority for me in my work with clients. I know first hand the impact emotional abuse has on one's ability to engage in relationships and I want to help people regain trust in themselves to identify and maintain healthy relationships with others. Working on boundaries and personal values is a key part of this process as well as exploring underlying traumas and abuses.

Emotional abuse, with its insidious and often hidden impact, can leave deep and lasting scars. At Collaborative Care Therapy, we approach the healing process from emotional abuse with a compassionate, integrative, relational, and trauma-informed perspective, recognizing the nuanced ways in which this abuse affects individuals. In our therapy sessions, we create a safe and nurturing environment where you can begin to unpack the effects of emotional abuse. We understand that this form of abuse can undermine self-esteem, distort self-perception, and create a lingering sense of fear or inadequacy. Our goal is to help you recognize and challenge these harmful internalized messages and beliefs. Our treatment approach is multifaceted, employing evidence-based methods tailored to your individual healing journey. We often use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to address negative thought patterns and beliefs instilled by emotional abuse. In addition, techniques like mindfulness can help in developing present-moment awareness and reducing anxiety, while emotion-focused therapy can assist in understanding and regulating complex emotions that arise from such experiences. Being trauma-informed, we pay special attention to the traumatic aspects of emotional abuse. We work collaboratively with you to rebuild trust, not only in the therapeutic relationship but also within yourself. Our focus is on empowering you to regain a sense of control and self-worth. Through our phased approach to therapy, we aim to help you move from a place of hurt and confusion to one of clarity and strength. This journey involves learning to set healthy boundaries, improving self-compassion, and fostering positive, respectful relationships in the future. Our virtual therapy sessions offer the convenience and comfort of accessing support from your environment, ensuring continuous and personalized care. With Collaborative Care Therapy, embark on a path to healing from emotional abuse and rediscover a sense of self-worth and confidence.

All of us go through the winding footpaths of life and at one point in time experience moments that create long lasting impacts and changes in ourselves, our environment, and in the trajectory of our lives. Sometimes those experience can be positive, and sometimes they are negative. These negative experiences are we we define as traumatic events. Emotional Abuse is absolutely considered traumatic. Our therapists can help you identify the roots of your struggles and create a custom treatment plan to overcome them. Head over to our website to learn more! The experience of trauma and traumatic events can be painful and excruciating. Sometimes these experiences leave us at more than just at a loss, but can continue to cause us pain and fear. These experiences can alter the way your mind works. Creating physical and emotional responses to triggers that remind you of your trauma. Even when you are unaware of these triggers, you can be left feeling overactive and hyper-vigilant to certain moments and interactions. The post traumatic consequences (often known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD) of these triggers is that you can feel like you are on constant alert to prevent future danger and pain; even when there is none to be presently found. If left untreated it can lead to one feeling loss and overwhelmed and increase rates of risky or dangerous behaviours (i.e. increased aggression and violence, increased substance use, increased physical and mental distress). Our goal is help you heal. We offer a safe space and environment to begin the process of talking about your pain as a means to start processing what had happened to you. Talking about trauma doesn't always mean retelling your story. We work with each individual uniquely in order to find the path of healing that is more effective for them. We utilize a variety of techniques including a highly effective form of trauma therapy called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to help folks through this process in order to help you rediscover hope and empowerment. Understanding our past gives us an ability to take control what we want our future to look like. We believe that all people deserve to live a life free from fear and pain, all of us deserve a little help along the way.

Emotional abuse is a type of trauma that can have long-lasting effects on an individual's mental and emotional well-being. It involves consistent patterns of behavior from a person who seeks to control, manipulate, or demean their partner or loved one. Emotional abuse can take many forms, such as constant criticism, name-calling, belittling, withholding affection or attention, and even gaslighting. It is essential to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have experienced emotional abuse, to help them process their trauma and develop healthy coping strategies. I strive to provide a space to explore the impact of emotional abuse on your self-esteem, trust, and relationships, and work toward healing and recovery. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and you do not have to face emotional abuse alone.
