Chronic Pain

Rose Snyder, EdM, PsyD, LLC

Psychologist, PsyD
Living with chronic pain or illness can affect many aspects of life, from energy and relationships to identity, daily routines, and future plans. As a longtime mindfulness practitioner and trained mindfulness teacher, I draw on mindfulness-based approaches, including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), for which I trained through the pain clinic at UMass. My own experience living with long COVID also informs my understanding of the adjustments and uncertainties that chronic illness can bring. In therapy, I help clients explore the emotional impact of ongoing health conditions and find practical ways to navigate life within their current capacities. Depending on individual needs, this may include mindfulness, nervous-system-informed approaches informed by Polyvagal Theory, pacing activities and energy, and making room for grief and frustration while finding meaningful ways to move forward.

Living with chronic pain or illness often brings immense emotional weight, fatigue, and distress. Our work will focus on changing your relationship to the pain itself so that your overall suffering lessens. We'll utilize proven, collaborative methods to help you unhook from the internal struggle with your symptoms, accepting your current reality not as surrender, but as a foundation for moving forward. Simultaneously, we'll explore what you truly value in life and commit to pursuing those things, even when pain is present. I'll support you in healing the emotional and psychological 'parts' of you that feel burdened or overwhelmed, helping you find self-compassion and moments of restoration by connecting with the natural world.
