Whatever happened to you, something covered the authentic you. Let's find it. You've been managing. Keeping it together. Showing up for everyone who needs you, handling what needs to be handled, and quietly wondering why it still feels like something is missing or wrong. Maybe you've survived something hard. Maybe you can't quite name what's weighing on you, but you feel it. Maybe life looks fine from the outside, and that almost makes it harder to explain. I became a therapist because I know what it feels like to need support and not receive it. I also know what it feels like to finally find it, and how much that changes everything. My own experience with trauma, addiction, and recovery shapes how I show up: with genuine warmth, without judgment, and with a deep belief that people can move forward no matter how stuck they feel right now. I work with an integrative, person-centered approach and view anxiety, depression, and addiction by looking at underlying trauma. I want to find the root with you and heal the problem, not just manage symptoms. Of course, how struggles show up is different for everyone, I don't believe there can be one-size-fits-all solutions. I listen to your story, understand you through how you survived, and work with you on the patterns that keep showing up. I want to truly listen and help you ask, and answer, "What do you really want now?" If you've been waiting for a sign to reach out, this is it. I'd love to hear from you.

Treatment Approach

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) Trauma-informed therapy that helps individuals explore deeply held, painful emotional experiences within a safe, attuned therapeutic relationship.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Social Learning Therapy Based on the idea that people learn behaviors by observing others. It applies modeling and reinforcement to encourage healthy change.
Approach Description: I take an integrative, person-centred approach grounded in a humanistic philosophy. That means I meet you where you are, listen to your story, and work to understand you through how you've survived and the patterns that keep showing up. From there we work on the deep-rooted strategies that once helped you cope but may now be holding you back. I draw primarily on AEDP, an emotion-focused trauma processing approach, alongside EMDR, to address trauma at its roots rather than managing symptoms on the surface. Everything is shaped by a trauma-informed lens and a genuine belief that people can move forward no matter how stuck they feel right now. Underpinning all of this is the 4C Framework, a structured approach I developed to help clients understand their core needs around Compassion, Community, Connection, and Consistency. It gives us a shared language to use in sessions, helping understanding and saving time (and money), while building a personal roadmap clients can return to outside of therapy, so the work holds up when life gets hard.

Fees & Insurance

Fees
  • Average Session Fee 185.00
  • Affordable sliding scale therapy: apply if you may be eligible.
  • I hold three sliding scale spots at any given time, available to anyone who wants to do this work but genuinely cannot afford the full fee. There are no formal criteria and no paperwork. I work on the honour system. If the standard rate isn't accessible for you, I ask that you let me know honestly, and that when your situation changes and you're able to pay the full fee, you let me know that too, so the spot can go to someone else who needs it. The sliding scale runs from $165 to $130 per session, and I check in periodically to see what still makes sense. No restrictions on session type, location, or how long you've been a client.

Bill Arbuckle Practice Description
I work with adults across British Columbia, offering individual therapy online for trauma, anxiety, depression, and addiction and recovery. My approach is integrative and person-centred, drawing on AEDP, an emotion-focused trauma processing approach, alongside EMDR and a trauma-informed lens to address the roots of what's keeping you stuck, not just the symptoms on the surface. I offer a free introductory call so you can get a sense of how I work before committing to anything. Sliding scale rates are available. I also developed the 4C Framework, a structured, self-paced program I offer to clients to understand your core needs and build a foundation for lasting change. Alongside therapy, clients can access the 4C's through the currently offered "Foundations" program, an introductory psychoeducation course designed to complement the work we do in sessions, giving us a shared language, saving time and money in sessions by building understanding faster, and helping you build a personal roadmap and plan to return to so we can keep moving forward. A free introduction to the course is available at: https://after-the-storm.thinkific.com/products/courses/4c-foundations
