CPT helps people recognize how trauma has changed their view about themselves, others, and the world. CPT teaches people to recognize the negative thoughts that are created by the trauma. These thoughts are called "stuck points" in CPT because they keep people stuck and get in the way of recovery from PTSD (from the National Center for PTSD (.gov))

Janice Shapiro
Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT
My work as a psychotherapist has always been like a detective uncovering the source. Trauma is no different. Clients usually come to me with intense anxiety, panic attacks, fears and more. We look for patterns from the past and connect the dots. Usually, we find patterns and connections. This is the start of the healing process. Using strategies from Internal Family Systems and psychodynamic therapies, we work together finding and practicing strategies that work for each client.

Acknowledging an event as traumatic is scary, and it can be easy to minimize our past experiences particularly when we feel "fine". Yet one may experience a variety of mental health symptoms and/or patterns which may feel uncomfortable or interfere with various life areas. These patterns likely helped you survive the traumatic experience, yet continued despite no longer being needed. I have over 15 years experience in treating symptoms of trauma and PTSD in children, adolescents, and adults. I utilize an integrated approach, incorporating psychoeducation, parts work (IFS), EMDR therapy, mindfulness and CBT to support clients of all ages with processing the traumatic experience and integrating adaptive information and new, more effective patterns.

When the Past Still Feels Present
You may know, logically, that a painful experience is behind you — yet your body and mind don’t always agree. A sound, a tone of voice, or even a smell can suddenly bring back the rush of fear, shame, or helplessness. Trauma can make you feel like you’re living in survival mode, constantly alert, exhausted, or detached from yourself and others. Healing from trauma isn’t about “getting over it.” It’s about helping your brain and body learn that you are safe again.
In therapy, we’ll use a structured, evidence-based approach called TEAM-CBT combined with the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) to calm your nervous system, rebuild trust in your body, and process painful memories at a pace that feels safe. Together, we’ll:
Understand how trauma reshapes the brain and body’s threat response
Learn grounding tools to bring the body back to the present moment
Release shame, guilt, and self-blame that often follow trauma
Rebuild a sense of safety, strength, and connection in your daily life
Transform survival skills into sources of resilience and wisdom
Our work focuses on restoring balance — helping you feel more in control, more connected, and more alive. Healing happens not by reliving the past, but by reclaiming your power in the present.
I BELIEVE:
Trauma changes how we survive, not who we are.
Safety and connection are the foundation of healing.
Your symptoms are not weakness — they’re evidence of strength and adaptation.
You can feel safe in your body again.
Compassion, not confrontation, is what restores the nervous system.
Also Integrated In Our Work:
• Interpersonal Work – to strengthen connection and empower you to be yourself using The 5 Secrets of Effective Communication
• Mindful Self-Compassion – to cultivate a gentler, kinder inner voice through the work of Dr. Kristin Neff

Trauma can be from a single incident or from various events across time. Changing the way we perceive ourselves and the world around us. You may be feeling disconnected from your body, feeling shame, or anger without fully understanding whether you are responding to the present moment or the past. Through somatic therapy we can explore the moments you feel blended to bring clarity, release stored grief or tension to help you live in the present moment.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
Traumatic events are, sadly, common. What determines whether someone develops PTSD often has less to do with the event itself and more to do with what happens afterward—especially whether they had support or were left alone in the aftermath. One of the most powerful elements of trauma therapy is breaking that original aloneness: having another person bear witness in a safer, regulated way.
Trauma lives in the body and nervous system. Many parents who are deeply committed to ending cycles of violence are shocked to find themselves reacting in ways they swore they never would. Under stress or overstimulation, unprocessed trauma stored in the nervous system can resurface, driving reactions that feel out of character and hard to control.
I use an integrative approach to treating trauma and PTSD. EMDR, for example, can help reconcile the gap between what someone knows intellectually and what they feel emotionally. A survivor of sexual abuse may understand cognitively that it was not her fault, yet still carry deep shame. EMDR supports the integration of that knowing so it becomes embodied and emotionally real. Brainspotting works directly with trauma stored in the nervous system and body, targeting the physiological states where overwhelming experiences are held. By accessing these deeper layers, it often brings meaningful insight and relief without relying solely on talk.
IFS approaches trauma with compassion for protective parts—such as dissociation—that developed to help someone survive. Rather than pathologizing these responses, we understand their purpose and gently help clients release self-punishing beliefs or repetitive reenactments that once felt necessary but no longer serve them. ISTDP helps release unconscious rage, guilt, and grief tied to those loved ones who caused harm—allowing for greater freedom and relief from longstanding defenses that perpetuated suffering.

Trauma and PTSD exist because of explicit and implicit memory of events that are out of the ordinary. Therapy explores the connection to both in a safe environment. Symptoms arise from these experiences that can be debilitating and exhausting. Sorting out these connections lead to healing.

Susana Scotti, Journey Psychotherapy
Psychologist, PhD
I offer specialized trauma therapy for individuals experiencing the effects of past trauma, including PTSD, complex trauma, and chronic stress. Trauma and PTSD can leave you feeling stuck in the past, overwhelmed by intrusive memories, or constantly on edge. You may experience flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, or a persistent sense of fear, disconnection, or emotional numbness. These reactions are your mind and body’s way of trying to cope with overwhelming experiences. As a clinical psychologist, I provide a safe, supportive space to process trauma at a pace that feels manageable. My approach is trauma-informed and grounded in evidence-based treatments, helping you gently work through painful experiences while building skills to regulate emotions and feel more in control. Together, we focus on reducing distressing symptoms, restoring a sense of safety, and helping you reconnect with yourself and others. Healing from trauma is possible, and you don’t have to go through it alone.
