Registered Psychotherapist, M.Ed., Registered Psychotherapist, Somatic Practitioner
Many people experience worry or anxiety. My focus is on the felt sense of anxiety- noticing where the anxiety "lives" in your body and noticing where you may be experiencing more stability and calm. Together we can understand the themes associated with your anxiety which may be somethink like; "what if I'm not good enough, when people get to know me they won't like me, what if people leave me," etc. I have helped many people to better understand and see their anxiety as something that has helped them survive.

Counsellor/Therapist, MACP, RP
Are you feeling overwhelmed by worries, doubts, or fears? Do you feel like you are running on empty and cannot quiet the constant dialogue in your mind—rehashing or replaying harsh judgments, strict rules, or past events? Perhaps you’re experiencing burnout, emotional irritability, or frequent, unexplained crying. If so, you’ve found your community! I support individuals who, like you and many Canadians, struggle with anxiety and unexplained panic. When stress goes unchecked, or attempts to manage it become rigid, pleasurable activities and social connections become limited, leaving you feeling isolated and alone. Together, we will work to compassionately transform your relationship with anxiety—understanding how it triggers you and how you typically respond. We will strive to develop a mindful and flexible approach to difficult thoughts, feelings, and emotions so they have less impact on your life. My goal is to empower you to let go of the struggle against yourself and to begin finding true freedom and fulfillment.

Registered Psychotherapist, M.Sc., Registered Psychotherapist
Everyone worries at times, however, if these thoughts and feelings are relentless and it is difficult to turn off racing thoughts and constantly feeling on edge, you might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety. I provide powerful psychotherapy tools to help you challenge intrusive, scary thoughts and overwhelming feelings of panic and unease. Feelings anxious and experiencing fear is so limiting and makes life extremely difficult. Together, we will explore the roots of your anxiety; identifying core beliefs, rules and assumptions, automatic thoughts and adverse childhood events which can result in anxiety symptoms. I provide significant psychoeducation on proven clinical methods for managing anxiety. I have extensive training in the management of OCD symptoms (obsessions and the resulting compulsions) and utilize ERP (exposure response prevention) to manage OCD. For specific fears and phobia's, social anxiety, agoraphobia and generalized anxiety, I utilize typical CBT strategies (building an avoidance hierarchy, attempting steps on hierarchy, teaching about cognitive distortions, recognizing triggers, teaching relaxation and grounding techniques). Take this journey with me; I can provide you with tools to enable you to feel relaxed, to equip you to begin to enjoy life and to help you live the life you deserve.

Anxiety is a physiological response to fear and/or uncertainty or something that has happened in the past that gets projected into the future. One of the first things I suggest to my clients to do is to slow down; pause and take a breath as the awareness of the anxiety is the first step. Emma Seppala in her TED talk provides us with a exercise in breathing which helps us to do this; she uses breathing in her work to help Vietnam Veterans s to heal from the trauma of war. Other reference for anxiety is Elisha Goldstein Ph.D. Also Elissa Epel Deep Breathing.

Anxiety is one of the Goliaths of our time. There is no way around the mountain of pain and darkness; you have to go through in order to get to the light on the other side. The work I offer works to pull out all the tools to support you on the sometimes arduous trek toward inner peace. Part of being a spiritual warrior is having the courage to shine a light on the monsters that are keeping you stuck—to look at the obstacles to finding your self-culture squarely in the eye—and when you see the dark within, you have to name it, claim it and then transform it. This process is a kind of facing one's imagined demons so as to finally slay them! The feelings of turmoil, self doubt, insecurity are all part of the darkness that if left untouched will take over..... The only way to neutralize and transform any part of yourself that is causing you pain and grief is to completely and courageously shine a light on it and then systematically master it through a process of detecting it, disrupting it and eventually replacing it. Breathwork, visualization, thought logs, parts work, supplements, talk therapy as well as somatic focusing are all part of the tool box we draw from in order to neutralize anxiety holistically.

Registered Psychotherapist, MScEd, RP, RMFT
It is natural to experience fear and to have feelings of anxiousness. At times, it may seem that these feelings are helpful, for example they may encourage an individual to make choices that keep them safe. However, at times anxiety and fear can become stronger and overwhelming. It can get in the way of one’s life, leading one to avoid enjoyable and regular activities. If you find that anxiety is limiting your lifestyle by way of avoidance, obsessiveness or compulsiveness, therapy can be helpful by assisting you to work at your own pace to gradually ease back into activities you have not been taking part in.

Mississauga, Ontario therapist: Joanna Szczeskiewicz, registered social worker
Anxiety

Joanna Szczeskiewicz

Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW
Anxiety takes on many shapes, from the physically overwhelming intensity of a panic attack to the never-ending questions that characterize generalized anxiety disorder. Whatever it's form, anxiety is maintained by the interaction between our anxious predictions (thoughts), attempts to escape or avoid our triggers (behaviours) and an almost chronic preoccupation with anxiety related symptoms (attention). Canadian Clinical Practice Guidelines recommend cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) as the first line of treatment for anxiety disorders. CBT helps us ensure that our thoughts reflect our reality and not our apprehensions, that our behaviours match our goals, and that our attention is directed towards what is effective instead of wandering way off into the future. Exposure-based interventions are central to CBT for anxiety. Exposure exercises teach us how to approach what we fear in a safe manner. After all the things that we avoid are often the ones that are the most important, like having that difficult conversation or studying for an exam. Procrastination has far more in common with anxiety than with laziness. Exposure-response prevention exercises help us eliminate needless precautionary behaviours like monitoring our physical states to predict the next panic attack or seeking constant emotional reassurance from people around us. Adding elements of mindfulness helps with rebuilding our focus and restoring our ability to do what matters. Overtime, as we prove our ability to cope, anxiety recedes into the background.
