Shannon Wylie

Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW
I am currently accepting new clients. No waitlist! Evening sessions available for in-person or online sessions. Having worked as a Registered Social Worker for over 12 years, I have established an approach to working with clients that leaves them feeling heard and supported. Together we create a space where you can safely and effectively work towards your wellness goals and make positive changes in your life. This may involve talking things through, processing and making sense of difficult experiences, addressing unhelpful thought or behaviour patterns, or establishing more effective coping mechanisms. Every client's journey is unique. My role is to support you in this process by being a neutral, non-judgemental resource. Having worked in multiple hospital settings with patients struggling with chronic medical conditions, I am equipped to support you through the many ways chronic illness impacts you and your life as a whole. Together we can build coping strategies, process the impact your health condition has on your life, your relationships and your stress levels and find ways to improve your overall mood and wellness as you work towards making the most of your situation. Toronto, Ontario therapist: Franklynn Bartol, pre-licensed professional
Chronic Pain or Illness

Franklynn Bartol

Pre-Licensed Professional, RP (Qualifying), MSc, MA
Many of my clients have or are experiencing chronic pain or illness, and I've learned much from my own experiences as well. I know that pain and illness is experienced differently by everyone and can intersect with our life, relationships, and identities in complex ways. It might bring up deep existential anxieties about life and death or trigger past traumas where you felt unsafe or uncared for. You might be navigating ableism—systemic barriers, medical trauma, or a lack of understanding from those around you. Maybe the pain or illness is an embraced part of you, or teaching you something you'd like to process together. Or perhaps you need to someone to see the anguish you're in and really be with you in this pain, grief, frustration, or scary uncertainty. Whatever you bring, I'll be attentive and present to what pain and illness means for you specifically.

What I am going to share may sound impossible to believe. But learning how to compassionately hold or accept the chronic pain or illness you are living with while developing skills to remove barriers for fear in your mind can give you the freedom to live the life you want. How? Working together as a team, we will mindfully explore and develop skills to drop the internal battle with the fear of pain and suffering. Letting go of the fight against ourselves changes how we think about pain and suffering; it decreases the mental focus on pain, worrying and stress, releasing you from perpetuating the cycle of pain. Perpetual Cycle of Pain = Connecting and focusing on pain and suffering leads to avoiding experiences that may create more pain and suffering. As lived experiences and social interactions get smaller because of avoidance, we become disconnected, lonely and isolated - creating additional pain and suffering. Let's work together to empower you to drop the struggle, learn to work with yourself, and find freedom and fulfillment.

Kingston, New York therapist: MJB Wellness LLC, hypnotherapist
Chronic Pain or Illness

MJB Wellness LLC

Hypnotherapist, Certified Hypnotherapist and Coach, Certified Sexological Bodyworker, Sex Educator, Certified Reiki
I have made Chronic Illness and Pain a specialty in my practice and I have trained with some of the leading experts in that area. I have worked with many chronic pain sufferers, often eliminating all their pain even when it has been a long standing problem. As far as illnesses go, I have been able to eliminate all the symptoms of a client who was suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a degenerative neurological condition related to ALS or Lou Gehrigs disease. When I first met him, he had been degenerating for 12 years, was confined to a wheelchair, could no longer speak, drooled constantly, suffered from tremors and repetitive movements, inability to sleep and he lacked motivation to do his physical therapy, the only treatment doctors could offer him. With no treatment or drugs for his condition, doctors expected him to die soon most likely from choking as he lost control of his swallowing. After one session, we stopped the tremors and repetitive movements, got him to sleep more soundly and do his PT. After a second session he was able to speak again and walk again. After 5 sessions one couldn't even tell he was sick and now 6 years later he is still gardening, walking his dog, hiking in the mountains. Soon after I worked with a gentleman who had developed an adult onset form of Muscular Dystrophy called Myotonic Dystrophy. Only 45 years old, he suffered from severe chronic fatigue, finding himself unable to get out of bed in the morning, taking hours to stand up. He had muscular pain and rigidity, painful joints and various digestive issues. The morning after our first session, he woke up full of energy and jumped out of bed. After a few more sessions we eliminated all his physical symptoms as well as clearing several emotional issues that had plagued him his whole life. Recently he contacted me to update me and report his still feeling good. I have also worked with clients with MS and Parkinsons> This past year I trained and certified in treating IBS and other gut conditions, learning a protocol which is considered the most effective treatment for these issues. I have also trained and certified in Hypno-Oncology, enabling me to support patients on their Cancer journey to deal with pain, anxiety, and the effects of treatment such as nausea. Recently, I worked with a woman with stage 4 lung Cancer. Her only hope was a new experimental protocol that involved a long needle inserted into the stomach. She had a lifelong needle phobia and was terrified. After the first grueling treatment she came home and cried and vomited for 3 days. After one session she went in for her second treatment and she was able to laugh and sing show tunes with the nurses throughout the treatment, felt no pain and went home calm and relaxed.

Toronto, Ontario therapist: Forouz Salari, registered social worker
Chronic Pain or Illness

Forouz Salari

Registered Social Worker, MA, MSW, RSW
Living with a chronic illness (such as PCOS, endometriosis, Crohn's disease, Celiac disease, Lupus, etc.) or chronic pain (resulting from a chronic illness, injury or trauma) can radically change your mental, emotional and physical capacity to engage in your life, including your work / studies, relationships, hobbies, interests and self-care activities. Living with these types of invisible disabilities means that others struggle to understand, empathize with, and extend grace and compassion towards you. They either do not know about, do not think about, cannot imagine, or refuse to offer you the types of accommodations that would support you to show up, engage and contribute to the best of your abilities. This can make you feel further misunderstood, isolated and marginalized, and reduce your access to resources and opportunities for care and growth. Let's work together to: Practice self-acceptance and self-compassion. Learn effective ways of managing your stress to reduce the intensity of the symptoms of chronic illness and chronic pain. Clarify your unique needs and boundaries. Create doable plans to feel more balanced, well, fulfilled and engaged in your work / studies, relationships, and personal life. Learn about and self-advocate for academic & workplace accommodations that can set you up for success.
