Can chronic pain get better?
Yes! Our brain changes and adapt throughout our lifetime (i.e., this is called neuroplasticity). Habits are essentially strengthened roads or pathways when we repeatedly do or feel or think in the same way. When we continue to travel the same road or pathway, we strengthen the habit. When we form a new habit, we make new connections and old pathways are used less/weakened. The more we travel the pathway, the more our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours become second nature (e.g., like brushing teeth).
In chronic pain, the nervous system and brain have changed due to neuroplasticity in an unhelpful way. The good news is that we all have the ability to learn and change by rewiring our brain.
Join our clinicians to participate in our 10-session Mind-Body Connection program designed to teach you strategies to manage chronic pain. Meet Laura, our awesome physiotherapist who can also provide additional strategies.
Some of our coaches have:
• Helped to start one of the largest pediatric chronic pain programs at a children’s hospital in Ontario
• Currently also at hospital chronic pain clinics
• Completed dissertation projects on chronic pain and are actively involved in ongoing research
• Hold leadership positions on regional and national chronic pain committees
• Hold academic appointments at well respected universities in which they teach and supervise trainees in the field of chronic pain
• Start psychosocial oncology programs in hospitals

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, BA Honours (Psychology), MSW, RSW
Chronic pain or illness can feel limiting , making it hard to find pleasure in life. I know, having lived with a chronic illness for decades. I can travel with you as you navigate these challenges, and offer tools for managing some of the psychological struggle that goes along with the physical struggle; struggles like "why me", the stress and pain of trying to get through the day, feeling different from others, and the uncertainty and helplessness you may feel. There are tools like grounding, mindfulness and acceptance I can help you with, and we can do work with past experiences that may be contributing to some of your present psychological suffering.

Sunlight Counselling, Melody Mann
Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW
Living with chronic illness or pain can be isolating and exhausting, especially when others don’t fully understand what it’s like. You may feel grief for the life you had, fear about the future, or frustration with your body. In therapy, we’ll explore the emotional impact of your health challenges and help you cultivate self-compassion and resilience as you adjust to a new rhythm of living. Together, we’ll also look at how to set realistic expectations for yourself — ones that honour your energy, capacity, and needs. This is a space to be honest about what’s hard and to discover strength, gentleness, and meaning in the midst of it.

Registered Social Worker, RSW, MSW, MTA, BMT, FAMI
Chronic pain or illness impacts far more than just the body. It can affect identity, energy, mood, relationships, self-worth, work, and the exhausting reality of trying to function when your body or nervous system feels unpredictable.
I understand that chronic pain and illness are not just physical experiences — they often come with grief, burnout, trauma, frustration, and the pressure of trying to keep up in ways that may no longer work.
My approach is compassionate, realistic, and practical. Together, we work on reducing shame, supporting your nervous system, processing the emotional weight of what you’re carrying, strengthening self-advocacy, and building a life that honors your needs while still making space for meaning, joy, and possibility.

MJB Wellness LLC
Hypnotherapist, Certified Hypnotherapist and Coach, Certified Sexological Bodyworker, Sex Educator, Certified Reiki
I have made Chronic Illness and Pain a specialty in my practice and I have trained with some of the leading experts in that area. I have worked with many chronic pain sufferers, often eliminating all their pain even when it has been a long standing problem. As far as illnesses go, I have been able to eliminate all the symptoms of a client who was suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a degenerative neurological condition related to ALS or Lou Gehrigs disease. When I first met him, he had been degenerating for 12 years, was confined to a wheelchair, could no longer speak, drooled constantly, suffered from tremors and repetitive movements, inability to sleep and he lacked motivation to do his physical therapy, the only treatment doctors could offer him. With no treatment or drugs for his condition, doctors expected him to die soon most likely from choking as he lost control of his swallowing. After one session, we stopped the tremors and repetitive movements, got him to sleep more soundly and do his PT. After a second session he was able to speak again and walk again. After 5 sessions one couldn't even tell he was sick and now 6 years later he is still gardening, walking his dog, hiking in the mountains. Soon after I worked with a gentleman who had developed an adult onset form of Muscular Dystrophy called Myotonic Dystrophy. Only 45 years old, he suffered from severe chronic fatigue, finding himself unable to get out of bed in the morning, taking hours to stand up. He had muscular pain and rigidity, painful joints and various digestive issues. The morning after our first session, he woke up full of energy and jumped out of bed. After a few more sessions we eliminated all his physical symptoms as well as clearing several emotional issues that had plagued him his whole life. Recently he contacted me to update me and report his still feeling good. I have also worked with clients with MS and Parkinsons> This past year I trained and certified in treating IBS and other gut conditions, learning a protocol which is considered the most effective treatment for these issues. I have also trained and certified in Hypno-Oncology, enabling me to support patients on their Cancer journey to deal with pain, anxiety, and the effects of treatment such as nausea. Recently, I worked with a woman with stage 4 lung Cancer. Her only hope was a new experimental protocol that involved a long needle inserted into the stomach. She had a lifelong needle phobia and was terrified. After the first grueling treatment she came home and cried and vomited for 3 days. After one session she went in for her second treatment and she was able to laugh and sing show tunes with the nurses throughout the treatment, felt no pain and went home calm and relaxed.
