Cayla Townes, Memento Psychotherapy & Counselling

Registered Psychotherapist, RP, CCC
There are so many things about getting older that no one talks about. Losing friends and family, losing the ability to do certain things you used to enjoy, aches and pains from illness or just from things wearing out, not being able to drive anymore or feel as independent. Many things people take for granted can start to be lost as we age. I work with people experiencing these changes to help process what is going on and how to adjust to new limitations. I also work with people on what is meaningful to them and what things they can do now to enjoy their life and find purpose and connection in it.

Kingston, New York therapist: MJB Wellness LLC, hypnotherapist
Elderly Issues

MJB Wellness LLC

Hypnotherapist, Certified Hypnotherapist and Coach, Certified Sexological Bodyworker, Sex Educator, Certified Reiki
When I began my practice, I was already in my mid 60s and assumed I would specialize in older adults. As a specialist in sexuality, I have helped many clients who come to me with sexual issues, most related to aging. I've become an expert of elder sexuality, assisting clients who want to continue to enjoy a healthy and satisfying erotic life. I have helped clients overcome erectile dysfunction, inability to orgasm, low desire, pain with sex and other problems. Many clients come to me post divorce or widowhood, who have not been sexual or even touched for decades and whose bodies have gone numb. Lack of education is a big problem for many and just learning about what is "normal" and what is possible is a huge game changer. Often, there needs to be a clearing of emotional issues that needs to be cleared. More recently, I have begun working with clients who have medical issues related to aging, working with people who are dealing with Parkinsons, IBS, Cancer, etc. Finally, as we age often we become anxious and fearful about our mortality, something that I can definitely help with as a hypnotist.

As we enter into the second half of life, new questions arise as we move into a space of reflecting on the past and considering what that means for our present and future. As we transition into our middle and elder years, we are often confronted with new challenges related to our functioning, our aging process, shifting relationships, and shifting matters of purpose and identity. These transitions are also invitations to incredible growth and healing, as we learn to release what no longer serves us, to practice deeper self-compassion and acceptance, to honour our hard-won wisdom, and to try new things and craft new stories about ourselves. Together we can explore these challenges and invitations with curiosity, compassion, and creativity as you learn to lean into your elder years with confidence, dignity, and

Coquitlam is one of Metro Vancouver's Tri-Cities communities, a rapidly growing suburb that has attracted a large and diverse immigrant population—particularly from China, South Korea, and Iran—making it one of the most multicultural communities in the greater Vancouver area and creating significant demand for culturally competent and multilingual therapy. Fraser Health provides public mental health services, and access to Vancouver's much broader private therapy market—either in person or via telehealth—gives Coquitlam residents a wide range of options for culturally matched practitioners. The city's rapid growth and its character as a first landing point for many new Canadians means that acculturation stress, immigration transition, and intergenerational family dynamics are among the most common presenting concerns in local therapy practices. Common therapy concerns also include anxiety, depression, parenting stress, and the challenges of navigating Canadian institutions and community life in a new country.
