Body Image therapists in Kitchener, Ontario ON, Canada CA
Elaine Stirling
Registered Psychotherapist, RP
It can be near impossible to keep up with society’s body standards and the ‘shoulds’ of diet culture. Through gentle questions, I aim to help clients explore the narratives around self worth, body image, and their preferred relationship with their bodies. I believe we all have stories about our bodies and image that are no longer serving us and are hard to let go. I hope to help clients discover these narratives and choose the path that allows for a different kind of relationship with themselves. Book a free consultation to explore if we are a good fit.

In many societies and cultures peoples relationships with their bodies are strained. We are subject to pressures to conform certain ways of looking, and some Bodies are privileged over others. Therapy for struggles with body image will involve Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-Based therapies, and Narrative Therapy. You will be supported to shift your relationship with your body towards acceptance and compassion.

Registered Psychotherapist, BA, MACP, RP
Body dissatisfaction is a painful self-image preoccupation that profoundly affects self-esteem, self-confidence and social life. It can range from feeling uncomfortable in your body to being unable to attend events because you feel ashamed of your body size and shape. While body image has typically been thought to be a problem that only affected a certain demographic, research shows that it affects people of all ages and genders. If you are self-conscious of your body, continually compare yourself to others, take a long time to find something to wear, frequently weigh or check your body, or isolate, then you understand the torment and anxiety that comes with worrying about your body image.
There are several approaches that work well for reconstructing body image including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy. We work from an inclusive, trauma-informed approach to help you understand your relationship with your body. We believe that every body is unique and therefore perfect. We will help you address the negative thinking caused by body dissatisfaction.
If you have been dealing with body image preoccupation for too long, please reach out for a free consultation. We would be happy to talk about how we can help.

Together we create a space where you can safely and effectively work towards your wellness goals and make positive changes in your life. This may involve talking things through, processing and making sense of difficult experiences, addressing unhelpful thought or behaviour patterns, or establishing more effective coping mechanisms. Every client's journey is unique. My role is to support you in this process by being a neutral, non-judgemental resource.

It matters how you see yourself. In my experience, clients with body image issues talk about the “ideal bods” our society has reinforced. I get it, it is hard. I can support you if you are going through concerns related to your body image.
