Treatment Approach

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) Trauma-informed therapy that helps individuals explore deeply held, painful emotional experiences within a safe, attuned therapeutic relationship.
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.

Dave Vass Practice Description
Understanding Type C Personality Dynamics --Keeping Up Appearances: The Inner Toll -------------------------------------------- In my clinical practice, I focus on individuals who reflect the often-overlooked Type C Personality—those who are Conscientious, Capable, and Emotionally Controlled. Unlike the more well-known Type A and Type B types, Type C individuals often go unnoticed. Their high achievements, emotional restraint, and unwavering sense of responsibility effectively mask their internal struggles. While Type A's are assertive and ready to take charge, Type C's exert control more subtly. They shy away from confrontation, dislike feeling like a burden, and frequently suppress their emotions to embody "the steady one"—the dependable friend, partner, or colleague that everyone relies on. Their pride in self-discipline and emotional composure hides a deeper tension: the fear of disappointing others, being perceived as selfish or overly emotional, or stirring conflict. Consequently, they often prioritize the needs of others to the detriment of their own well-being, leading to emotional exhaustion. Many of these coping mechanisms stem from early life experiences—like emotional misattunement, rejection, or critical environments—that fostered the belief that being “too much” emotionally could drive people away. Over time, they've learned to navigate relationships by minimizing their own needs while maximizing their reliability to those around them. The long-term impact of this pattern can be significant. In their quest to avoid rejection or conflict, Type C individuals may gradually withdraw from their own emotional needs, desires, and sense of self. They might feel appreciated for what they do but struggle to feel valued for who they truly are. In therapy, we work collaboratively to illuminate these patterns, reconnect with emotional authenticity, and establish new ways of relating that honor both self-care and care for others.
