We all experience anger. However, it can become problematic when we have not processed unresolved traumatic experiences from our past and/or experience anxiety and/or depression. This can lead to feelings of resentment and unhealthy relationships. Together, we can uncover the source to your anger, heal from past experiences by working on forgiveness and learn strategies to help you cope more effectively so you can find a sense of peace.

I often refer to these feelings as the "Itchy Bitchies." Anger is a healthy emotion that is often overlooked. However, many of us never learned how to use it as an ally or develop positive coping skills. It's important to recognize the difference between the feeling of anger itself and our reactions or responses to it. Thankfully, these reactions can be learned and rewired!

These techniques can be helpful, but we will also look for deeper understand things that trigger your anger. Doing so will provide opportunity to address your anger and possibly heal past wounds. These past wounds can bubble up and take control in powerful ways in attempt to be heard / understood. On top of all this, we can find constructive ways to express our anger that will make us more likely to be heard and our feelings respected.

People are often afraid of anger and try hard to suppress it. Doing so only causes them to "blow" in angry outbursts and, by not addressing it and learning how to manage it, they just continue to suppress > increase the pressure > blow up in anger > spend time and effort trying to undo the hurt caused others by the blowup. There is a better way! Anger is a normal and natural emotion and we need it. But we also need to learn how to manage it and I can help you with that. Stop fearing your anger and start harnessing it for good and managing it so you don't do harm to yourself and others.

Anger can show up as blowups, shutdowns, or a constant sense of irritation that is hard to shake. We will look closely at what sets it off, what happens in your body when it rises, and what patterns keep it going. Along the way, we will build practical skills for regulation and communication, and we will also make room for the hurt, stress, or frustration that anger is often carrying underneath.

The first step in managing anger is identifying when you are experiencing it. I will help you identify the physical, behavioral, cognitive and emotional indicators that will assist you in recognizing your anger. Through mindfulness skills I will help you be more comfortable experiencing anger as you observe it more dispassionately and refrain from acting on it. I will teach you radical acceptance, which is a component of mindfulness. This will reduce the amount you replay angry narratives in your head. Although you will still feel angry the duration of the experience may be shorter and less intense. You will learn how to properly use your anger as a tool for change in a productive way.
Additionally, insight into self-esteem issues, or understanding how past psychological injuries may contribute to anger experiences can be valuable. Often people who are angry about an injustice may not be just responding to the current stressor. Rather, the stressor may link back to core issues that are also getting activated. I will help you gain insight into angry dynamics which will enhance your capacity to distance yourself from them. If your anger is connected to anxiety and fear I will help you learn how to manage the anxiety to offset frustration, irritability or anger
