Dr. Elizabeth Coldren
Psychologist, PSYD, PSYPACT
I work with adults who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Many of the people I see have built full, functioning lives and are often seen as capable, responsible, and reliable by others. Inside, they may carry a private mix of shame, confusion, anger, or grief about what happened, and a sense that they have never really had space to tend to it.
Early abuse can leave traces in many areas of adult life. You might notice difficulty feeling at home in your body; anxiety, numbness, or shutdown in moments of closeness or vulnerability; a persistent sense that you are “too much” or “not enough”; or a tendency to doubt your own perceptions. There may be complicated feelings toward family members who knew, did not know, or minimized what happened, as well as patterns of over‑accommodating, people‑pleasing, or staying in relationships that feel familiar but not truly safe. Sometimes the impact shows up as depression, anxiety, perfectionism, or a feeling of being fundamentally different from others, without always linking it back to your early experiences.
I have worked with survivors of childhood sexual abuse for many years, and this is one of my primary areas of specialization. I know how varied and complex the impact can be. My approach is careful, attuned, and paced to your nervous system. We do not rush into details or push for disclosure. Instead, we focus on helping you feel safer inside your own body and mind, making sense of what happened at a pace that feels manageable, and loosening the grip of shame and self‑blame. Over time, we explore what it means to have real choice, boundaries, and agency in your adult life, including in relationships, work, and family.
My role is to offer a grounded, non‑intrusive space where you do not have to minimize your experience or protect anyone else’s feelings.

Dr. Amanda Malak
Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist
I specialize in supporting individuals who have experienced sexual abuse by providing a safe, compassionate space to process the trauma and its effects. My approach involves using therapeutic modalities to help people heal, rebuild their sense of safety, and regain control over their lives. I help clients address feelings of shame, guilt, and fear while working through the emotional and psychological impact of abuse. My goal is to empower survivors to rebuild their self-esteem, manage symptoms of trauma, and move forward in a way that supports their overall healing and well-being. Referral to community organizations, like the Survivor's Sanctuary (https://sanctuary.metoomvmt.org/), are also helpful tools for people to use alone or alongside therapy.

Although you feel alone, you are not alone. According to Dark to Light and their 20 years of service to preventing child abuse, about one in seven girls will be sexually abused before they turn 18. Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults) occur to children ages 17 and under. Youths have higher rates of sexual assault victimization than do adults. Hearing these statistics might cause some fear but it can also validate you.
These facts also state that this abuse commonly leads to substance abuse. Female adult survivors of child sexual abuse are nearly three times more likely to report substance use problems (40.5% versus 14% in general population). We don’t want to feel it, we don’t want to think about it. It makes sense that you would seek something to take the pain away.
Your mind can feel like a war zone. Mental health problems are a common long-term consequence of child sexual abuse. Adult women who were sexually abused as a child are more than twice as likely to suffer from depression as women who were not sexually abused. Adults with a history of child sexual abuse are more than twice as likely to report a suicide attempt. Females who are sexually abused are three times more likely to develop psychiatric disorders than females who are not sexually abused. You may have previously seen someone about this and were met with many different disorders. They may have constantly changed what they told you was wrong with you, never fitting what you though or felt.
Your body is also struggling, maybe from multiple health issues you are trying to manage. Adult victims of child sexual abuse have higher rates of health care utilization and report significantly more health complaints compared to adults without a child sexual abuse history. These include fibromyalgia, severe premenstrual syndrome, chronic headaches, irritable bowel syndrome and a wide range of reproductive and sexual health complaints, including excessive bleeding, amenorrhea, pain during intercourse and menstrual irregularity. Adults with a history of child sexual abuse are 30% more likely than their non-abused peers to have a serious medical condition such as diabetes, cancer, heart problems, stroke or hypertension. You might miss work or important events because of your health or just exhaustion from surviving day to day.

Clear Path Counseling and Wellness Center
Licensed Professional Counselor, MA. LPC
Brad provides trauma-informed therapy for individuals who have experienced sexual abuse and related trauma, including the lasting emotional effects such as shame, guilt, worthlessness, anxiety, depression, fear, emotional numbness, and difficulty with trust, relationships, and self-esteem. These experiences can have a profound and long-term impact on emotional well-being, identity, and overall quality of life.
Brad takes a holistic and trauma-focused approach to healing from sexual abuse, providing a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where clients can process their experiences at their own pace. Therapy is designed to help clients reduce emotional distress, restore a sense of safety and control, and begin rebuilding self-worth and emotional stability.
As an experienced trauma therapist and EMDR therapist, Brad integrates EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), trauma-informed counseling, emotional regulation strategies, and holistic therapeutic approaches to support deep and meaningful healing. Treatment focuses on processing traumatic memories, reducing symptoms of distress, and addressing the underlying emotional impact that often persists long after the abuse has occurred.
Sexual trauma often requires specialized, trauma-focused treatment. While supportive talk therapy can be helpful, deeper healing typically involves addressing the nervous system responses, emotional wounds, and core beliefs formed through the traumatic experience. Brad’s approach is designed to support this deeper level of healing and long-term recovery.
Therapy is collaborative and individualized, allowing clients to feel safe, respected, and empowered throughout the healing process. The focus is on helping clients regain emotional balance, strengthen resilience, and develop healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
Healing is possible. With the right support, clients can move beyond the impact of sexual abuse, release feelings of shame and self-blame, and rebuild a stronger, more grounded sense of identity, safety, and self-worth.
