Jason Fletcher Hypnotherapy and Coaching

Hypnotherapist, FNCIP SQHP
Gambling work focuses on understanding the emotional needs or stress responses that sit behind gambling behaviours. I support people in exploring what gambling provides emotionally and how those needs might be met in safer and more stable ways. Sessions are non-judgemental and structured, supporting greater self-awareness and regulation.

Mandy Randall-Gavin MBACP, UKATA

Counsellor/Therapist, BA Hons, Dip TA Prac: UKATA
I've noticed that when clients come to therapy disclosing a gambling problem, they often minimise their negative feelings. They seem to have become hard-wired to seek out the pleasure of the bet. Gamblers often hide their feelings of loss, anxiety and depression with another addiction and say they cannot press the 'off' button. I would work alongside you to discover what the triggers are to actually making the bet. How you are feeling before the bet, what mood you're in, whether you're on your own or with others and where it takes place. This is when you the client and me the counsellor, can draw up an action plan and agree about what you are going to do and how you're going to do it. It is also important to know the size of the debt you've accumulated and identify if any money is owed and to whom.

The gamblers are often the victims of abuse or neglect and this addiction like any other is where the person tries to sublimate their personal needs to cope with life in general. We have ways to help that match the problem extent. Trauma can be at the root of it all, but a sense of instant gratification and the need (habit) for the adrenaline rush are all factors to be looked at.
