Anxiety or Fears

Ivan Pityk

Registered Psychotherapist, MA, RP
Work, projects, family and friends can all be rewarding and give our life meaning. We strive to do our best and make life meaningful, but this can sometimes make it difficult to manage your energy and stress level to do the things you find fulfilling. Anxiety and stress are important parts to motivate ourselves to achieve more. This makes it sometimes easy to minimize its impact on our quality of life. When this happens, we may find things we enjoyed before to have less meaning and things like selfcare become a chore. Living at this pace can quickly lead to burnout and depression. Recognizing anxiety and burnout in ourselves and others can be difficult, especially when we feel like pushing through is the best way to overcome these feelings. Even though our anxiety encourages us to push through, it exacerbates the exhaustion we are already feeling. You are not alone in this and seeking help can improve stress management, work life balance, and reduce feelings of overwhelm. Anxiety and fear act as important processes for motivating us to do better and make sure we perform well or account for future problems. However, like many things in life its often hard to balance, sometime becoming over focused on anxiety itself. I can help explore these processes and find way of managing anxiety and anxious thoughts by incorporating CBT and DBT skills.

Anxiety or Fears

Catherine Dwyer

Registered Social Worker, MSW RSW
Being a human being is hard especially when we don’t quite understand how our nervous system operates, how we’re hardwired and why we think, feel, and act the ways we do. Anxiety and fear can show up in our lives in so many ways that just keep us stuck and get in our way of leading our best life. My goal is help you better understand your own inner workings, cultivate some psychological flexibility, and enhance your ability to take committed actions towards building a more balanced, manageable, meaningful life.

Matt Temple

Registered Psychotherapist, M.A., R.P., C.C.C.
I believe that anxiety is unavoidable. It is a part of being human. However, we can develop a deeper understanding and acceptance of it and learn to listen to it so that it can help us move in new directions. Further, there are times when we are able to develop tools to manage it when it takes up more space than is helpful. Most importantly, we can open ourselves to experiencing it differently.

Watras Counselling and Psychotherapy Services

Registered Psychotherapist, RP, MACP, BSc
In working with clients on their anxiety and stress I primarily aim to promote understanding: understanding of why we are feeling so anxious and stressed, what factors contribute, what can be done to better manage or eliminate anxiety and stress from our lives, and most importantly, how to eliminate ambiguity from our lives. I specialize in working with clients on their stress and anxiety, whether it stems from work, relationships, family, trauma, lifestyle, or beliefs. It is only through understanding that we can promote comprehensive and meaningful change in our lives. I utilize principles of cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused work, and psychodynamics in my work.

Registered Psychotherapist, M.A., R.P.,CCC
It is common for most people to experience moments or periods of fear and anxiety, especially in today's fast paced , uncertain and rapidly changing world. More specifically, anxiety may manifest in response to trauma, PTSD, or critical life events which are perceived as a threat to an individuals sense of safety, security and survival. Depending on the intensity of symptoms, a family physician may recommend medication to provide support in addition to counselling or psychotherapy.

Registered Psychotherapist, RP
In these unprecedented times in our lives many of us are dealing with feelings of great uncertainty about our individual future and how to handle and cope with life changes. Repetitive thoughts are often aligned with anxiety. Anxiety has a cyclical pattern and unless it is interrupted it will run its course, causes overwhelming feelings of fear and despair. Through a compassionate and observational lens reducing stress and anxiety will cultivate focus and clarity. Learning to connect to our senses is very grounded and can quickly break the anxiety cycle and help bring us back to our own center. Book a free consultation to see if we are a good fit.

Anxiety, worries, and ruminating thoughts can feel overwhelming and all encompassing, seeping into every part of your life. I help clients externalize their anxious thoughts, as if it is an annoying roommate feeding you worst case scenarios all day, and together we will use a number of strategies to disempower that anxious voice in order to quickly identify, and challenge unhelpful thoughts. We will also explore how your body responds to the perceived threat of anxious thoughts and practice techniques to help you calm your body.

For anxiety and fears, a multimodal approach will be used with cognitive behavioural therapy and narrative. It will facilitate the identification of the anxiety or fears while creating a preferred narrative surrounding it.
