Helping women surface from the fog of depression. Depression can literally can feel like you have been existing in a fog or bad dream for weeks on end. You may be experiencing low energy and motivation to do much of anything, continuous low mood, increased sensitivity and tearfulness, irritability, or thinking you are unworthy or not good enough. Together, we will work to uncover the root causes behind your thoughts, feelings and symptoms to provide you with concrete, practical tools you can use to support difficult emotions. From working together you can develop awareness and insight into thought and behaviour patterns, while learning to relate more amicably to the emotions gripping and pushing you around. Berry Didier Nibogora - Bilingual CBT therapist @ CMAP Health

Counsellor/Therapist, RP(Q), CCPA, LLM
Feeling sad, demotivated, low energy and uninterested in activities you use to enjoy are the hallmarks of a depressed mood and depression remain the leading cause of disability. My approach to helping those experiencing depression is to start from outside to inside. By doing manageable tasks, one activity at the time, those struggling with depression progressively get back in contact with rewards. By doing what gives you pleasure or is important for you, according to your values and where you want to be in life, while pausing and celebrating milestones and achievements, you will get better. This is hard in the first days as depressive symptoms keeps the affected person down and demotivated. I am clear with my clients, right from the very beginning: do not fall in the trap that you will start doing something when you get motivation. It does not work that way and sleeping in or sitting on your couch because you feel demotivated is an avoidance strategy that will be feeding in your depression. Most clients start with behavioural activation strategies/principles first before doing the cognitive work of changing the unhelpful thinking or rumination that equally feed into the spiral depressive whole. Make no mistake: what you do or not do impact on the situation you are facing. If you decide to get started doing something small, you will feel different and the more you engage in mood boosting activities, the more you enjoy them and start to see the world and yourself with positive lenses. Should your clinical depression turns out to be treatment-resistant, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy will be an in-house option for you once you go through screening and assessment.
