Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Christian Counseling Blends psychological practices with Christian values and scripture. It provides faith-based support for life challenges and spiritual growth.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Family Constellation Therapy Explores hidden family dynamics and patterns across generations. It helps people understand how past family issues may be influencing current struggles.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: At True North Wellness, our team of counsellors takes an integrative and evidence-based approach rooted in compassion, curiosity, and collaboration. We draw from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based strategies, and person-centered therapy to support emotional insight, nervous system regulation, and meaningful behavior change. A core area of our practice is couples counselling. We work extensively with the Gottman Method to help partners improve communication, navigate conflict with respect, rebuild trust, and deepen emotional connection. Our approach integrates structured assessment, research-supported interventions, and practical at-home exercises to nurture strong, secure, and resilient relationships. We also incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support vulnerability, emotional safety, and attachment repair. We additionally support individuals navigating ADHD, anger, and substance use challenges. Our counsellors assist clients in building executive functioning skills, emotional regulation strategies, distress tolerance, and healthy coping systems. Sessions may include psychoeducation, skill-building, routine and habit support, and relapse prevention where appropriate. At True North Wellness, our counsellors offer a warm, supportive space for individuals and couples to explore emotions, strengthen relationships, and develop practical tools for well-being. We integrate CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and person-centered therapy to help clients build resilience, clarity, and emotional balance. We specialize in couples counselling rooted in the Gottman Method, helping partners navigate conflict, improve communication, restore trust, and deepen connection. We incorporate practical exercises, structured guidance, and compassionate support to help relationships grow both inside and outside the therapy room. EFT and IFS principles further support emotional bonding and secure connection. We also work closely with individuals managing ADHD, anger, and substance use. We help clients strengthen emotional regulation, develop coping strategies, build executive functioning and communication skills, and create healthier patterns and routines. For athletes and high performers, we offer tailored counselling to navigate the pressures of competition, training, and performance. Our approach supports mental resilience, focus, stress management, and personal growth — helping clients perform at their best while maintaining emotional and mental well-being. For those seeking guidance rooted in faith, our experienced counsellors provide spiritual and biblical counselling, supporting personal growth, clarity, and healing in alignment with Christian values. With a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach, we walk alongside each client with empathy and curiosity — supporting you as you build confidence, understanding, and a life that feels aligned and meaningful.
