Joel Schmidt
Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Qualified Supervisor
Anger is a natural emotion, but when it starts to interfere with relationships, work, or your sense of control, it’s worth addressing. I help clients understand the function of their anger and develop healthier ways to respond—without shame or judgment. Using principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we’ll work on noticing what shows up in the moment, making space for difficult emotions, and choosing actions that align with your values, even when anger is present.

Kreins Psychological Services
Psychologist, PhD, PsyD
As a psychologist specializing in anger management, my approach to treatment is centered on understanding the underlying causes and triggers of anger while equipping individuals with practical strategies to manage their emotions constructively. Through evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness techniques, I help clients identify negative thought patterns and develop healthier coping mechanisms. By fostering self-awareness and teaching skills such as assertive communication and problem-solving, I empower individuals to express their emotions effectively and navigate conflict situations with confidence. Additionally, I emphasize the importance of stress management techniques and relaxation exercises to prevent anger escalation. My goal is to support individuals in gaining control over their emotions, improving relationships, and enhancing overall well-being.

Aaron Kapin
Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, SEP, LMT
While there are often mental components to anger you'll want to address with a talk therapist, there's also a physical component that we can work on using somatic approaches:
Out of control anger is often your nervous system's "fight" response kicking in so intensely that it's hard to keep your cool. Anger serves an important purpose, but we want to know that we can still stay connected to our best selves even while we are angry.
We can use body-focused techniques to be able to recognize when anger is about to kick in, and to teach your body new ways of responding to that anger. For example, you may find yourself saying to me "I noticed I was getting hot and agitated, so I excused myself for a couple minutes."
You may find yourself able to focus your energy much more quickly than you used to, to come back focused and goal oriented. You may still feel 'mad' but it may be anger that is working for you, in alignment with your values.

Nour Counseling
Counselor/Therapist
Anger is often treated like the problem—but more often, it’s a signal. For many people, anger is connected to feeling unheard, disrespected, overwhelmed, or pushed past their limits for too long. It can also be shaped by culture—how anger was expressed (or not allowed) in your family, what was modeled for you, and how your identity impacts whether your anger is taken seriously, dismissed, or punished. At Nour Counseling, we don’t pathologize anger or reduce it to “just calm down.” We take it seriously.
We work with you to understand what’s underneath your anger and how it shows up in your body, your thoughts, and your relationships. From there, we build real tools—ways to recognize early cues, regulate your nervous system, communicate more clearly, and set boundaries before things escalate. We also address the patterns that keep you stuck, whether that’s suppression, explosive reactions, or cycles of guilt and shutdown afterward. This is not about controlling yourself to make others comfortable—it’s about helping you respond in ways that feel aligned, effective, and grounded in who you want to be.

Melissa Berschauer
Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT
Anger is a completely normal emotion, but when it starts blowing up your relationships, costing you at work, or making you feel out of control, it’s usually masking a lot of deeper stress. We will work together to get under the hood of those explosive moments, identifying your physical triggers before you hit a boiling point. I'll help you build practical, real-time tools to cool down the nervous system storm so you can choose how to respond rather than just reacting.

Guy J Iacono
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
Anger is not the problem. How it gets expressed, and what it costs you, often is. For many men, anger shows up as the most visible symptom of something deeper: chronic stress, unmet expectations, feelings of disrespect, or years of pushing things down without a real outlet. It can damage relationships, create problems at work, and leave you feeling like you are not in control of yourself.
Therapy for anger management is not about learning to suppress what you feel. It is about understanding where it comes from, recognizing the patterns that escalate it, and building the skills to respond rather than react. We look at triggers, physical cues, communication habits, and the beliefs underneath the behavior.
My approach is direct and practical. We identify what is actually driving the anger, develop concrete strategies for managing it in real time, and work on the relationship and communication patterns that tend to make things worse. Clients leave sessions with tools they can actually use, not just insight about why they struggle.
If anger is affecting your relationships, your career, or your sense of who you are, this work can help. I invite you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation to talk about what you are dealing with and whether we might be a good fit.
