Eating disorders are severe health concerns. They are vastly under-treated and diagnosed due to the fat phobia within the system and the widespread diet culture.

Admitting that an eating disorder has developed is a very brave and courageous step. By engaging in this first step you are already beginning your recovery process. Many individuals are in denial about their eating disorder and only acknowledge their problematic behaviours once their health is severely impacted. Since the behaviours of an eating disorder are unique across individuals, the treatment plan too, is unique.
In therapy, we largely explore the meaning that you give to the eating disorder, how you developed your relationship with food, and the purpose that the eating disorder served in your life. Once you gain a deeper understanding of the cause of the eating disorder, my hope is that you view yourself through a nonjudgmental lens, which is a crucial step in the healing process.
In order to help you overcome the eating disorder, I also use a variety of therapy models, such as narrative therapy in order to separate the disorder from the person. Once you perceive the issue as separate from the self, you are more likely to activate your self-healing capacities, which is important for experiencing change and growth. I also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for challenging some of the thoughts that you may have about food. Once you gain insight into your personalized history of the eating disorder, as well as the resources that you have for overcoming dysfunctional eating patterns, you move further into your journey to recovery.

When our relationship with food becomes filled with turmoil, eating becomes a burdensome ritual associated with feelings of guilt and shame. We can work both to unpack the root causations of this hardship, and to establish a relationship with food that feels comfortable and safe.

Food is everywhere! It taunts us, lures us, keeps us hooked with sugars and fats. It creates a satiety for a moment that feels like a big sigh or deep released breath. But it has consequences and does damage. It is the necessary that can be addictive also. It impacts health and image as well as physical feelings. It spills over into our emotional well-being too. We can't run from it and we feel victimized when we can't enjoy it like we see others doing. Any of this sound familiar? I hear you, binge eating was my go to for decades, eating was a social safety clutch and my way to dong something that even if it hurt, stopped other cravings for a short time. Our value system scattered and belief system unsure we brave each day thinking maybe today I can change. Lets chat about it

If you are struggling with bulimia, or other disordered eating, you have likely promised yourself time and time again that this will be the last time that you engage in these behaviours, assuring yourself that you know what to do and that you can stop anytime. You have managed a few days, weeks or months symptom-free, but the behaviours have always returned. Although it may be difficult to imagine getting through life's ups and downs without your disordered eating, I can help you to develop new ways of coping and to achieve lasting recovery. And you will set the pace of your recovery.
My approach is to work in a respectful and inclusive manner, helping to facilitate change when you're ready. I firmly believe that you have your eating disorder for very good reasons, and that with education, treatment and learning new ways of coping, you can recover as have so many of my clients.
I am told that my approach helps to inspire hope and motivation, as well as to reduce the stigma and shame of seeking help. Therapy is individualized, drawing upon my many years of experience treating bulimia and other eating disorders.
