Sumer Statler Aeed

Psychologist, Licensed Psychologist
Telehealth psychology support for life adjustments, trauma, relationships, and body issues. With technology, you can experience all the benefits of in-person therapy in the comfort and privacy of your own home and have continuity of care when you travel. It can be especially helpful to those who find it challenging to travel to an office for appointments due to location, work, children at home, lifestyle, or other practical or personal reasons. You may be located abroad or be a professional who travels, telehealth allows you to get the support and resources and meet you where your life is at. While there are multiple ways that counseling can take place online, I work primarily with face-to-face video conferencing via Zoom and, on occasion, telephone sessions. I always hold my sessions in a quiet and confidential space, giving you the same confidentiality & professionalism that you experience within an office setting. Most, if not all, of my clients, find virtual sessions to be highly effective and convenient. They allow for the comfort and safety of therapy in your own space, and no travel time is often less vulnerable than needing to go to an office. Research of multiple studies finds that online therapy is equally effective as in-person for most cases. That being said I always advocate for what works best for each individual and it is wonderful to have choices to find your best path whichever that may be. If you are not tech-savvy or anxious about using technology, I'll make it as seamless as possible. I have chosen a platform that is easy to use, and I am happy to assist you with any questions or concerns. A common concern I hear from clients regarding online therapy is finding a quiet and/or confidential space when you’re homebound with children, and/or family members or roommates. Please plan this out in advance so you have quiet and privacy during your session. Since it is so convenient many times people forget to allow themselves a few minutes to "switch hats" and allow themselves a few breaths and get settled into being present and in the head/body space for your session. Headphones or AirPods can often make audio clearer or provide more privacy, but are not necessary. Given that video sessions can be conducted on your smartphone, clients have found it helpful to go to a park, connect from wherever you may be, and/or walk around your neighborhood. Get creative and support yourself. Find a private space that allows you to receive support no matter where you are. You are welcome to have pets join your space if you find that comforting and supporting, and you may see my fellow feline/canine therapists join in one of our sessions on my end.

I am certified by PSYPACT for Interjurisdictional (Interstate) Telepsychology practice. I use HIPAA-compliant secure video conferencing, and most testing can be performed online as well. I have found that a video conference, in which masks are not needed, allow us to make more real connections than mask-to-mask in the office. Facial expressions can be read and responded to much more effectively in video conference, compared to wearing masks.

Does this sound familiar? You want to feel peaceful and content, but instead you are feeling: overwhelmed by stress, totally burned out, or even debilitated by anxiety. It’s been hard for you to manage the emotional toll of constant and often unrealistic demands. You can rarely find a moment to stop and catch your breath. Each day feels like you are being stretched a bit thinner and you wonder how much you have left to give. Life doesn’t have to go on this way. Hi, I’m Dr. Jennifer McManus and I help ambitious women find relief from stress, burnout, anxiety, and deep emotional pain. My clinical experience is wide and deep. I estimate I have conducted about 90,000 hours of psychotherapy sessions, including many hours supervising other therapists. My basic orientation is existential and psychodynamic, but I have added much training and experience in other approaches on top of that over the years. We keep learning more about how to be effective therapists, and I have aggressively added to my clinical wisdom. I stand ready to work to understand you deeply, and help you seriously, whatever your current dilemmas.
