Marianna Trezza -The Growing mindset

Counsellor/Therapist, MA (Hons), Adv Dip. Counsel. & Psychoth.,Dip. Hypnoth., X-Cultural Adaptation Coun. Reg. BACP 572613
For many women living abroad, stress is not only caused by work, responsibilities or daily pressures. Sometimes it comes from years of constant adaptation. Adapting to new countries. New languages. New cultural expectations. New versions of oneself. Many Italian women abroad become highly skilled at functioning while internally remaining in a subtle but ongoing state of alertness. Monitoring how they speak. How they are perceived. How much space they take up. How much they need to adapt in order to belong. Over time, this continuous self-monitoring can place significant strain on the nervous system and body. Many women begin to experience emotional exhaustion, tension, overwhelm, difficulty relaxing, chronic anxiety or the feeling of always having to “hold everything together”. My work explores the deeper emotional and nervous system patterns underneath chronic stress, over-functioning and long-term emotional adaptation. I integrate psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, embodiment, EFT, lifestyle medicine, reflective dialogue and nature-based practices to support women in reconnecting with a greater sense of regulation, authenticity, inner rhythm and emotional ease.

Alison Edwards Therapy & Supervision

Psychologist, CBT Therapist, FMBPsS, MA (Hons), MSc, CertCouns, MSc
I provide Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for stress/ burnout, and for clients who feel overwhelmed with life events and long-term stresses or anxiety. Many clients are actually experiencing mild depression. CBT is the recommended psychological therapy for general anxiety, depression, panic attacks, agoraphobia, social anxiety/ social phobia, and Generalised Anxiety Disorder*. I can also provide CBT for traumas and PTSD. During my professional qualification I chose to specialise in panic attacks and agoraphobia for my research and dissertation. (*GAD also known as chronic neurosis is excessive and persistent worrying about several areas of your life, worry that is out of proportion with the situation and interfering with day-to-day life, a feeling of not being able to control worrying, and difficulties around overthinking and planning for potential problems that have not occurred.)

Stress

Louise Perry

Registered Psychotherapist, IFS UKCP HCCP BAAT
I work with adults experiencing ongoing stress, including feeling overextended, pressured, or caught in persistent states of alertness and responsibility. Stress often develops as a response to competing demands, long-standing expectations, and internal pressures, rather than as a single problem to be solved. My work draws on Integrative Art Psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS), offering ways to explore how stress is organised internally and what responses it triggers over time. Rather than focusing on stress management techniques, sessions centre on understanding the patterns, beliefs, and roles that keep stress in place. We may work through conversation, creative exploration, or a combination of both, depending on what feels most useful.

Stress

Ruth Mark-Roland Psychotherapy

Registered Psychotherapist, Post Grad Diploma in Psychotherapy, Foundation and Diploma in Group Analysis
I offer support for stress, including feeling overwhelmed, emotionally overloaded, burnt out, or unable to switch off. Stress can show up in many ways, such as constant mental pressure, irritability, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, sleep disruption, or a sense of always being “on edge” and unable to fully relax. My approach is grounded in psychoanalytic and relational psychotherapy, offering a reflective and non-judgemental space to explore both current pressures and the underlying emotional patterns that may contribute to stress. Together, we may look at how early relational experiences, attachment patterns, and internal expectations can shape how you respond to demands, boundaries, and self-care. I work in a trauma-informed way, recognising that chronic stress is often linked not only to external pressures, but also to deeper emotional dynamics such as perfectionism, people-pleasing, anxiety, or difficulty recognising personal limits. Therapy can support you in understanding these patterns and developing more sustainable ways of relating to yourself and others. I also integrate somatic awareness to help you notice how stress is held in the body, such as tension, restlessness, or fatigue, supporting greater regulation and grounding. Psychoeducation may be used to deepen understanding of stress responses, and where appropriate, I may incorporate EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques / tapping) to support emotional release and nervous system calming. Therapy is collaborative and paced according to your needs, helping you develop greater resilience, balance, and capacity to manage life’s demands with more ease and self-compassion.

Dereham, England therapist: John Castleford, registered psychotherapist
Stress

John Castleford

Registered Psychotherapist, MA, MIAEB, FRAI
Anxiety, Stress and Worry affects us all. We evolved to deal with occasional stressful threats--hence our "fight or flight" response. We did not evolve to deal with the increasing persistence and prevalence of stressful situations -- at home, in our communities, and workplaces. Anxiety about living with or after cancer invariably involves perceptions about what we imagine may happen. But the mind often has difficulty differentiating between what is real and what our imagination has created. Fortunately there is a profusion of strategies for minimising stress and the effects of worry and anxiety, and my approaches involve building self-esteem up to previous levels, mindful mediation to enable you to take a step back from worrisome thoughts, rather than become subsumed by them, and helping you reorient locus of control so you are more in control of yourself, rather than delegating responsibility to external influences.

Stress

Ulrike Nau-Debor

Psychologist, CPsychol, AFBPsS, HCPC registered
It is so easy to feel stressed in this world: we are constantly busy and focused on something because we are so attuned to external cues about whether or not we are safe. In my view, we develop stress due to our limiting belief systems. For example, we might assume that being busy equates to being successful, leading us to overwork to feel secure. We might believe we should be superwomen or supermen and, therefore, never ask for help, continually adding more to our lives. We may not believe we are good enough and, in striving for perfection, create significant stress for ourselves. These are just a few examples. Another reason we can become burnt out is if we lack compassion for ourselves and, as a result, don't take proper care of our well-being. If you choose to work with me, we will explore the beliefs that create stress for you and help you overcome them. Together, we will learn new ways of being that invite ease and joy back into your life.

Stress

Kamini Wood

Life Coach, FHH, CLC, CPM
Stress is not always about having too much to do. Sometimes it comes from carrying too much. Constantly anticipating problems, taking responsibility for everyone else, struggling to say no, or feeling like you have to hold everything together can leave your mind and body in a constant state of tension. Together, we'll explore the patterns contributing to your stress, strengthen your capacity to regulate emotions, establish healthier boundaries, and develop practical tools that help you respond to life's challenges without becoming overwhelmed. My goal is to help you create a life that feels more balanced, intentional, and aligned with your values, rather than one driven by constant pressure and survival.

I assume Climate Anxiety is universally present in the collective unconscious. Joanna Macy has written: "Until the late twentieth century, every generation throughout history lived with the tacit certainty that there would be generations to follow. Each assumed, without questioning, that its children and children's children would walk the same Earth, under the same sky. Hardships, failures, and personal death were encompassed in that vaster assurance of continuity. That certainty is now lost to us, whatever our politics. That loss, unmeasured and immeasurable, is the pivotal psychological reality of our time."

Please see any of the other entries. Stress is such a word that sometimes does a lot of heavy lifting in our world. Stress can mean brief experiences of sensory or cognitive overload, or could be an expression of anxiety, other health challenge impacting mental health. It could result from just not having language or a sense of space where one is accepted and can belong available to talk about one's challenge. Generally, if it's not CPTSD related there are lots of great ways to sort through overload and growth with working with inner feelings. If it's CPTSD and DID or other CPTSD based, parts work or other neurodevelopmentally supportive care might help. If it's oppression based or chronic health based, then it may help to share about the situation and find ways that are less taxing, require less masking, etc. to move through a situation or be at peace in it. Stress can sometimes mask grief. Our hegemonic culture has not developed or has even discarded tools for working with grief. So sometimes stress can be indicator that grief work is helpful. Also, a very real factor is disaster capitalism -- giving people a place to be real about that and its multiple devastating impacts is often very helpful. Sometimes it can open up new creative ways of addressing the challenge and finding agency that might have been inaccessible before. Sometimes there is just a need to mourn the challenges with other compassionate folks to feel less alone. Sometimes its about family or cultural conditioning to prove and succeed in an automated way, that discards the realm of emotions that unfortunately can't be stuffed or wedged out forever, as they are a useful gauge for inner and broader conditions when worked with constructively. Stress could be resultant from conditions not listed here, like being an overextended caregiver, etc. or stepping into one's first big art/creative event... If you're feeling stress, please feel free to reach out and ask for help!
