Depression is like an inner colapse...no motivation, nothing matters... So there is definitely some strong inner beliefs about you...and life, what it/you should be that is not like that etc. and this calls for a whole new re-orientation to life - to bring up into awareness what you have kept "sort of" safe and hidden, and to learn to see with new inner eyes that pertains to your deeper heart-knowledge...

Depression can affect anyone and is treatable. As a mood disorder, it can alter a person’s feelings and interactions with the people and things around them. Using approaches such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT), we can develop coping strategies together. We can work on learning positive skills that quieten negative inner commentary. As well we can look into ways of communicating better, speaking up for one’s self and addressing situations that worsen depression symptoms.

CBT for depression is typically structured and time-limited, with sessions focused on specific goals and measurable outcomes. It is often conducted on a one-on-one basis with a therapist, but group CBT programs for depression can also be effective. In some cases, CBT may be combined with medication therapy, depending on the severity of symptoms and individual needs

I approach depression from an Adlerian perspective. When I'm working with a depressed client I help my client look at the purpose of their depression -- not the cause, and help them uncover the repressed anger that is at the root of the issue. Using CBT we will explore the irrational thinking that contributes to expectations and anger. Together we will work to find more productive ways to tackle stress and problems.

Depression can impact a person's thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, leading to difficulties in daily functioning. I mainly use cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based therapy for clients experiencing depression to help them identify and challenge negative thought patterns, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. I work collaboratively with clients to explore underlying issues contributing to their depression and support them in setting achievable goals for recovery. Depression doesn't always mean tears and intense sadness. It can look like sleeping way too much, or waking up and feeling like you can't sleep at all. It can feel like just not caring about anything or not wanting to be around those you love. If this sounds like you, we can use scientifically tested techniques and a supportive place where we can chat to help you feel better.

One of my favourite analogies to explain the experience of depression is that depression is like a giant Yeti sitting on top of you all day long. It makes getting up, doing daily tasks, interacting with others, and even sitting extremely hard and tiring. As such, and for many other reasons, walking the path with depression can be profoundly challenging. At the same time, some research suggests that depression has an evolutionary function, namely, to slow us down and focus all our energy on solving the complex problem that started the depressive episode. In essence, it forces us to stop and reflect. In therapy, I support clients to explore their relationship with depression, develop tools to stay regulated when it shows up, get curious if it has an important message for them, and take action towards their goals (which may include responding to depression messages). In my personal and clinical experience, I have seen that depression can be an opportunity for life reflection and profound personal growth.
