What is Forgiveness? It’s helpful to distinguish between forgiveness and exoneration. Forgiveness is the internal process of releasing the heavy burden of resentment and the desire for retribution. Exoneration, on the other hand, implies that the person did nothing wrong or is "off the hook." You can forgive someone while still acknowledging that their actions were unacceptable. Should I Forgive? The question of "should" is deeply personal. A better question might be: Is it safe for me to do so?
