Post Induction Therapy: Freedom From Childhood Trauma

Brent Peak

When I first trained with Pia Mellody in Post Induction Therapy, I knew I was learning something special. I had already spent years helping people overcome some of life’s deepest concerns, but this was different. It wasn’t just about managing problems and stress—it was about getting to the root of the pain that shapes how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and why we keep falling into the same patterns.

Pia is a legend in the field of trauma therapy. In addition to her work as an author writing Facing Codependence, she pioneered Post Induction Therapy as a structured way to heal core wounds—the deep, hidden injuries that shape our self-worth, boundaries, and relationships. When I trained with her and led therapy groups with her at The Meadows, I saw firsthand how powerful this work is. And I saw how much of it applied not only to clients but to my own life as well.

How Post Induction Therapy Heals Core Wounds

If you struggle with people-pleasing, over-functioning, or feeling like you’re ‘too much’ or ‘not enough’, there’s a good chance your core wounds are still running the show. These wounds usually start in childhood when we experience intrusion, inattention, or inadequacy—whether from caregivers who were critical, neglectful, overbearing, or simply emotionally unavailable.

The problem is, these wounds don’t just disappear when we grow up. They shape the way we think, feel, and relate to others, often without us realizing it. You might say yes when you want to say no. You might withdraw when you actually need connection. You might keep attracting relationships where you feel responsible for the other person’s emotions—because that’s what love once felt like to you.

The Work of Post Induction Therapy

Post Induction Therapy helps untangle all of this. It’s an experiential approach, meaning we don’t just talk about the wounds—we work through them in a way that the nervous system can actually heal. We go back to the origins of those old beliefs and rewrite them with the truth:

  • You were never too much.
  • You were never not enough.
  • You always deserved love and protection.
  • You always mattered.

I’ve seen this process change lives. I’ve watched people let go of shame they’ve carried for decades. I’ve seen them reclaim their sense of self, set boundaries without guilt, and finally feel at home in their own skin.

Why This Matters to You

If you’re like many of the adults I work with—balancing career, family, and relationships while feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure of where you end and others begin—this kind of healing is essential. It’s not about blaming the past. It’s about understanding how the past still affects you and doing something about it.

Post Induction Therapy is one of the most powerful tools I use in my work, whether in therapy or coaching. If you’re ready to stop repeating old patterns and start feeling grounded, empowered, and free, I’d love to help you take that step.

Because you deserve to live as your whole, healed, and authentic self.
